Associate Sustainable Waste Management Consultant

Bradford on Avon · Hybrid

About this role

SLR is a global sustainability consultancy helping clients deliver practical, sustainable solutions within a collaborative, people-first culture.

Our Sustainable Waste Management team is looking to further increase its capacity to support clients in delivering projects across the sector with the appointment of an experienced waste and resources management professional.

This role will support local authority and private sector clients on waste service procurement, operational reviews, infrastructure projects, and wider sustainability initiatives. The position offers opportunities to lead project delivery, contribute to business growth, and help clients develop practical, sustainable resource management solutions.

We provide a hybrid working environment but also see benefit in our staff having access to one of our offices to allow direct engagement with colleagues and other technical disciplines - the preferred locations for this role are Bradford-on-Avon, Bristol, Birmingham and Edinburgh, but we are open to candidates in other locations who can be based from an alternative SLR office.

The Role

Working as part of a growing consultancy team, you will provide technical and project support across waste management, procurement, and infrastructure projects, while helping to develop client relationships and new business opportunities.

  • Support procurement projects for waste collection, treatment and related environmental services, including tender documentation and evaluation activities
  • Advise local authority and private sector clients on service reviews, options appraisals, operational improvements and regulatory compliance
  • Provide technical input on waste infrastructure projects, including household waste recycling centres, transfer stations and depots
  • Manage project delivery, budgets and client relationships to ensure successful outcomes
  • Contribute to business development activities, bid submissions and the mentoring of junior team members

Company at a glance

SLR is a committed partner in our clients’ sustainability journeys.

We help them move from influence to impact, turning intent into purposeful, practical action that delivers real-world results.

Guided by our philosophy of Rational Sustainability, we focus on what truly drives long-term value. By viewing decisions through the lenses of risk, reward, and resilience, we help clients act with confidence, balancing environmental and social responsibility with commercial and strategic success.

Our purpose - Making Sustainability Happen - means delivering outcomes that are grounded in evidence, shaped by experience, and built to last.
SLR has been advising clients for over 30 years at every point of their project life-cycle. Starting as a UK business, we now operate as a global company with more than 4,500 people delivering client solutions across six regions. We have grown both organically and through welcoming other like-minded businesses with a similar One Team culture into the SLR group. We are ably supported by our principal investor, Ares Management, and will continue to build a balanced, successful and growing business.

We’ve designed working life at SLR to look a little different. Because we know talented people often feel restricted by the rigid systems, lack of cross-functional collaboration and limited options for growth on offer elsewhere.
Our One Team culture promotes meaningful professional and personal growth, our flat management structure provides many opportunities to progress, and our collaborative approach means you’ll get the chance to work on projects you care about and make a real difference.

If you’re purpose-driven, self-motivated and keen to make an impact on a global scale, we want to hear from you.
