Assistant Editor (6-Month FTC/ Secondment)
About this role
This senior editorial role will put you at the sharp end of Sky News journalism, commissioning and delivering stories and managing dynamic on-the-day news coverage across Sky’s web and app. There will be considerable team management responsibilities across the digital team.
This is a shift-based role including earlies, lates and some weekends.

What you’ll do
- Make key editorial decisions and drive coverage on web and app
- Participate in key editorial meetings setting the day’s agenda
- Lead the web and app editorial teams, manage and develop journalists
- Commission stories and analysis to our digital journalist and the wider newsrooms, including TV correspondents
- Liaise with the wider newsroom to set the agenda and move stories forward
- Participate in and contribute to the planning of big events
- Work with our audience development team to implement data-led strategies
Essential Criteria
- Sharp editorial judgement
- Experience handling big breaking news scenarios and keeping cool under pressure
- Legal knowledge and best-practice experience to critique and sign-off sensitive journalism
- The agility to multi-task and ability to identify priorities
- Significant newsroom and management experience
