Skillforce has teamed up with an industry leader in building and infrastructure to find a Mechanical Pipe Foreman for projects in the DMV area. This is a full-time, direct hire position.
The Mechanical Pipe Foreman directs field operations for mechanical construction activities and serves as the primary point of contact for the crew performing the work. This position is responsible for coordinating manpower, materials, equipment, and daily assignments while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, productivity, and schedule. The Foreman provides hands-on direction to a crew of approximately 3–8 employees and ensures work is completed according to drawings, specifications, and established jobsite requirements.

What You’ll Do
- Supervise and coordinate mechanical craft personnel throughout daily construction activities.
- Assign tasks and establish priorities to keep crews productive and work progressing according to schedule.
- Review project drawings, P&IDs, specifications, and installation details before beginning work.
- Determine appropriate piping materials, fittings, valves, supports, hangers, and installation methods based on project requirements.
- Perform and oversee pipe fabrication and installation, including measuring, cutting, threading, grooving, fitting, and assembly.
- Operate and oversee the safe use of pipe cutters, threading machines, band saws, Victaulic grooving equipment, and other mechanical tools.
- Install piping systems using threaded, grooved, welded, brazed, soldered, fused, or cemented connections as required.
- Install and secure pipe supports, brackets, clamps, hangers, and related components.
- Lay out piping systems in the field and determine required offsets, angles, miters, and fittings.
- Perform pressure testing of completed piping systems and identify leaks or installation deficiencies.
- Assist with the placement, installation, leveling, and alignment of mechanical equipment such as pumps, blowers, and process equipment.
- Coordinate lifting and material-handling activities involving cranes and other heavy equipment.
- Properly rig, guide, and signal suspended loads in accordance with safe lifting practices.
- Monitor jobsite conditions and ensure employees follow required safety procedures and work practices.
- Conduct daily crew safety meetings and address potential hazards before work begins.
- Coordinate work with project managers, other trades, and site personnel to prevent conflicts and maintain workflow.
- Monitor crew performance, labor utilization, production rates, and phase completion.
- Maintain accurate records of employee hours, time spent by work phase, and daily production.
- Verify that necessary tools, materials, equipment, and manpower are available before work begins.
- Train less-experienced employees on proper installation techniques, equipment operation, and safe work practices.
- Inspect completed and in-progress work to verify proper installation, workmanship, and adherence to project requirements.
- Identify field issues and work with project leadership to develop practical solutions.
- Maintain a professional, productive, and safety-conscious work environment.
- Perform additional responsibilities as needed to support successful project completion.
What We’re Looking For
- Previous experience leading mechanical, piping, or pipefitting crews in a commercial, industrial, or process environment.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise and coordinate a crew of 3–8 employees.
- Strong understanding of mechanical piping installation and fabrication practices.
- Ability to interpret P&IDs, mechanical plans, piping drawings, and construction details.
- Proficient with common pipe fabrication and installation tools and equipment.
- Familiarity with Victaulic roll-groove and cut-groove systems.
- Understanding of piping pressure-testing procedures and leak detection.
- Experience with mechanical equipment installation, setting, and alignment.
- Ability to work safely around cranes, heavy machinery, and active construction operations.
- Knowledge of proper rigging and signaling procedures.
- Strong understanding of construction safety practices and OSHA requirements.
- Ability to accurately document labor hours, production, and work progress.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication abilities.
- Ability to read and follow technical instructions, safety information, and equipment documentation.
- Physically capable of performing demanding construction work and handling heavy materials.
