IT Support Specialist
About this role
POSITION: IT Support Specialist | Silver Hill Energy | Dallas, TX (Uptown) | On-Site | Contract
Silver Hill Energy Partners is a prominent private oil and gas company based in Dallas, Texas. As an institutionally sponsored fund, Silver Hill is dedicated to the acquisition, optimization, and development of profitable oil and natural gas assets, aimed at delivering attractive risk-adjusted returns for its stakeholders. The company is uniquely positioned to leverage the current market opportunities owing to its (1) experience in the establishment and management of large-scale oil and gas enterprises, as well as its (2) proficiency in sourcing, evaluating, and underwriting oil and gas investments.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
We are looking for a hands-on IT Support Specialist to be the friendly, in-person face of our IT department. This is an in-house role supporting both our office staff and our field users, working alongside a third-party MSP that provides higher-level support.
Our environment is on-premises and runs at a fast pace. We're looking for someone who fills downtime productively: spotting problems before they become tickets, improving how things run, and pitching in on internal data projects.
We will train you on our systems and processes; however, we need someone who already has solid technical fundamentals and can hit the ground running.
What You Will Do
- Serve as the first point of contact for end users, delivering friendly, patient, in-person support to both office and field staff.
- Manage and resolve tickets in our internal ticketing system, escalating to our MSP when appropriate.
- Set up, configure, and troubleshoot end-user hardware — laptops, desktops, monitors, peripherals, docking stations, cabling, and printers.
- Administer user accounts and access in Windows Active Directory and Microsoft 365.
- Provide day-to-day support for the Microsoft 365 suite (Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Office apps) as well as proprietary oil & gas software.
- Proactively identify recurring issues, gaps, and improvement opportunities during slower periods — and bring solutions, not just problems.
- Assist with internal data and reporting projects during downtime (see below).
What We Are Looking For
Technical Fundamentals (Primary Focus)
- Solid, demonstrable hands-on experience supporting Windows environments and end-user hardware. You should be genuinely comfortable with the physical side of IT — building out a workstation, connecting displays and peripherals, identifying common cables and connectors, and diagnosing hardware issues without hesitation.
- Working knowledge of Active Directory (user/group management, password resets, basic troubleshooting).
- Practical experience administering and supporting Microsoft 365.
- Comfortable working independently on Level 2 issues and growing into Level 3 responsibilities over time.
Personality
- Genuinely friendly, outgoing, and approachable — you'll be the face of IT, and how you make people feel matters as much as how you fix their problem.
- Patient and calm. No condescension, no jargon-dumping — just helpful.
- Self-motivated and resourceful. You don't wait to be told what to do when the queue is empty.
Nice to Have
- CompTIA A+ certification (preferred, not required).
- Exposure to data analytics and business intelligence tools — particularly Power BI, SQL, and Spotfire. This is a genuine plus.
- Prior experience supporting field/remote users in addition to an office environment.
The Data Side (Secondary Focus)
When the ticket queue is quiet, this person will help out with internal data projects — reporting, dashboards, and analytics work using tools like Power BI, SQL, and Spotfire. A background in data analytics is a welcome bonus and will make you more effective in the quieter stretches. Technical support skills and the right personality come before analytics experience.
Work Environment & Requirements
- 100% on-site in Uptown Dallas. Reliable in-person attendance is essential.
- Full-time contract position (direct with the company), with the potential to convert to permanent for the right person.
- Occasional lifting and moving of IT equipment (workstations, monitors, peripherals) is part of the role.
- As a publicly funded, SEC-compliant organization in the energy sector, employment is contingent on successful completion of a background check and pre-employment screening.
COMPENSATION & SCHEDULE:
- Pay: $30–$35/hour, depending on qualifications and experience
- Monday–Friday, on-site at our Uptown Dallas office
- No after-hours or weekend support required
- Contract position
