Job Summary:

Leads movement and dance within a therapeutic environment to help individuals who are experiencing physical, psychological, emotional or mental problems. Provides coordination, communication and program planning of all Dance Movement Therapy services including Dance Therapy Assessments for individuals and groups. Provides other therapeutic activities as identified by the program.

Job Requirements:

Education and Work Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in dance, movement, performing arts, psychology, nursing or equivalent (some certifications will require Bachelor’s): Required
  • Master's Degree: Preferred
  • Modern or classical dance training and experience: Preferred

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Association for Dance Movement Therapy (ADMT): Required
  • Association for Dance Movement Therapy (ADTR): Required

Facility Specific License/Certifications:

  • Hospital Fire and Life Safety (HLFS): Required

Essential Functions:

  • Functions as an integral member of the multi-disciplinary treatment team to address patient’s clinical needs.
  • Assesses patients' needs, plans and provides appropriate treatment. Helps patients understand and address inner conflicts through role play, interaction and self-realization.
  • Plans, schedules and implements facility wide dance/movement therapy sessions so that residents are offered a wide range of expressive therapy opportunities.
  • Reports progress to colleagues, families/care givers and appropriate staff. Documents progress and maintains patient records.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
