Royalties and Distribution Sen Specialist - AudioSalad (Maine)
Hybrid
About this role
AudioSalad is looking for an experienced Senior Royalties & Distribution Specialist to join the Royalty Reporting team. This subject-matter expert is responsible for the accurate processing, analysis, and distribution of royalty payments to clients and partners through hands-on data management and analysis, performance tracking, and other distribution related functions. This senior role serves as a primary point of escalation for complex royalty inquiries, supports cross-functional teams on licensing and rights matters, and supports the continuous improvement of royalty systems and workflows.
AudioSalad's catalog includes more than 7.7 million tracks and has processed over 1 trillion units in royalties over the past 12 months across every major DSP.
The ideal candidate brings multiple years of royalty accounting experience, with the ability to own complex reconciliation problems independently, and has advanced Excel skills. This is a strong fit for someone who wants real ownership over their work in a close-knit, collaborative team environment.
What You Will Be Doing
- Independently managing the monthly royalty reporting process for Digital Service Providers (DSPs) such as Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon, YouTube, SoundCloud, etc., by gathering, validating, and accurately/efficiently managing relevant information in the appropriate systems/databases.
- Building and maintaining complex Excel formulas and models to support royalty calculations, reconciliations, and distribution accuracy across large volumes of data.
- Interpreting distribution contract and deal terms and ensuring they're accurately reflected and set up within our royalty systems.
- Owning reconciliation end-to-end by independently identifying, investigating, and resolving discrepancies in royalty data, diagnosing root causes and implementing corrections rather than simply escalating issues.
- Supporting internal and external audits by confirming that payments and receipts reconcile accurately.
- Owning our systems, including digital music content management platforms, royalty accounting software, and analytical data tools, and becoming a proficient user with minimal ramp-up time.
- Serving as a confident point of contact for clients, partners, and internal stakeholders on royalty reporting and distribution questions.
- Partnering closely with the Royalty and Distribution Manager on process improvements, special projects, and ad hoc financial analysis as the business scales.
What Makes You Qualified:
- 4+ years of hands-on royalty accounting experience (music royalty/distribution experience strongly preferred).
- Knowledge of royalty and distribution deal structures (e.g., fee arrangements, advances, licensing terms) and how they translate into system setup.
- Demonstrated ownership and thoroughness in completing complex tasks, with the flexibility to shift priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Advanced problem-solving skills — proven ability to independently investigate data discrepancies, identify root causes, and implement solutions.
- Extreme attention to detail with a track record of maintaining accuracy across large, complex datasets.
- Advanced Excel proficiency, including pivot tables, complex nested formulas, conditional formatting, and data reconciliation techniques.
- Strong independent judgment and the ability to prioritize competing deadlines with minimal oversight.
- A genuine team-oriented mindset within close, collaborative working relationships.
- Bachelor's degree in business, finance, accounting, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
What's Music To Our Ears:
- Prior experience at a digital distributor, label, PRO, or royalty accounting firm.
- Passion for music and the music rights industry.
Why This Job:
- Real ownership and impact within a close-knit, growing team.
- Hybrid schedule with flexibility.
- Competitive salary and benefits [health/dental/vision, 401k match, PTO policy, etc.].
- Clear path for growth as the team scales.
