The Shipping and Receiving Clerk at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention receives all inbound packages and mail for the campus. The Clerk sorts and catalogs incoming items, including scanning, X-raying, and inspecting parcels and mail for suspicious indicators. Forklift use is required, and the company will provide on-site certification. This role requires regular communication with government customers regarding mail and package handling and includes daily processing of outbound mail and packages. Interaction with third-party vendors such as USPS, FedEx, UPS, DHL, R&L, and other freight agencies is also expected.

Primary Duties

  • Receive Packages
  • Process outgoing letter mail
  • Process and ship packages and work with Animal Handlers
  • Receive and transport perishable biomedical supplies
  • Receive and distribute bulk liquid nitrogen
  • Check-in packages against orders using ECAT system
  • Track and forward paperwork to Purchasing Agent.
  • Track outbound packages
  • Inspect and scan packages
  • Sort and distribute inbound mail/packages.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Adhere to SOP’s concerning special packages such as tracking and shipment of incoming biological and other radiological contents.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications: Education, Experience, and Certification(s)

  • High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED)required.
  • 1 year mail handling experience required.
  • 1 year shipping and receiving experience required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficient with Microsoft products such as excel, word, and Microsoft IOS.
  • Experience using Forklift
  • Experience using freight dock
  • Verbal and Written Communication skills.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Able to bend, stoop, kneel, Able to lift packages of up to 75 lbs. Ability to carry packages and utilize hand dollies and the like on a daily basis.1-3 miles of walking per day.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
