IT Manager
About this role
This isn’t a typical IT Manager role. You’ll be solving problems as we scale, improving systems, and helping shape the IT environment we’ll need for the next stage of growth.
At sees.ai, we’re redefining how autonomous drones operate at scale.
We’re looking for someone with an engineering and problem-solving mindset — someone who enjoys understanding how things work, improving them, fixing awkward problems and finding better ways to do things.
It could suit an IT Manager who misses being hands-on, or an excellent engineer ready to step up, take ownership and shape the bigger picture.
About the role
As sees.ai grows, our IT environment is becoming more complex.
There is a conventional corporate IT estate — laptops, users, networks, onboarding, security and support — but our technology goes well beyond that.
Our operational systems include significant Linux-based infrastructure associated with our autonomous drone platform and ground-control systems, alongside cloud infrastructure, engineering systems and a growing volume of data.
Responsibility for IT currently sits across a mixture of internal engineers, senior leadership, external specialists and an MSP. We’re now looking for someone who can start taking broader ownership of that environment and help shape what it needs to become as we scale.
The role will be varied. You might be improving onboarding, troubleshooting infrastructure, working with engineers on an operational system, automating something that shouldn’t be manual, thinking about security and resilience, or simply fixing something that has stopped working.
There will also be normal day-to-day IT work. We want someone who is equally comfortable thinking about the bigger picture and getting stuck into whatever needs doing.
What we’re looking for
We’re deliberately keeping the specification broad.
What matters most is that you’re technically curious, practical and good at solving problems.
You should have some genuine hands-on Linux experience and a strong interest in developing that further. You don’t need to be a Linux specialist, but it shouldn’t be completely new territory.
Beyond that, you’ll probably have broad hands-on IT or engineering experience and be comfortable getting into unfamiliar technical problems.
Perhaps you’ve built an internal tool because the existing options weren’t good enough, automated a repetitive process, designed or rebuilt a network, set up monitoring around a troublesome system, migrated an awkward legacy platform, written scripts to remove manual work, or built something simply because you wanted to understand it.
We’re much more interested in what you’ve actually built, fixed, changed or improved than whether your career has followed a conventional IT path.
The kind of person who’ll enjoy this
You like figuring things out.
You investigate rather than immediately escalating. You want to understand the underlying problem rather than just close the ticket. If something doesn’t work particularly well, your instinct is to ask whether there’s a better way of doing it.
You’re also comfortable working in an environment where not everything has been worked out yet. sees.ai is growing quickly, so some of the problems you’ll encounter will be new ones.
