Position Summary
Attention to detail, troubleshooting and debugging skills as well as the necessary experience are key to success in this role. Excellent written and verbal communications skills, the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously and strong analytical and problem-solving skills are pre-requisites for success in this role. The ability to work with Engineering and translate requirements into test plans and cases is critical. Team player is a must!
SPS offers a highly challenging, yet interesting work environment. This position will involve working closely with the Development team, sharing, and working with them to achieve the highest level of success.
Work will be onsite at our Orlando location near the UCF campus. Our expectation is that contractors who successfully complete training and perform effectively in the role will have an assignment lasting approximately three months, with potential month-to-month extensions thereafter based on performance and business needs. As with any contract assignment, the duration is not guaranteed.
The role is expected to provide 40 hours per week, generally between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., with some scheduling flexibility depending on employee availability and business requirements.
This is a contract position and should not be viewed as a path to guaranteed full-time employment, although strong performers may be considered for future opportunities.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Collaborate closely with software engineers, firmware engineers, and product managers to understand requirements and clarify expected system behavior.
- Execute manual and automated test cases for embedded firmware and companion software applications as well as integrated third-party systems.
- Perform functional, regression, and integration testing across the full system stack — from panel firmware and onboard peripherals (readers, relays, inputs/outputs) to host software and web/cloud interfaces.
- Document test cases, results, risks, and defects, and communicate findings to stakeholders.
- Log, track, and clearly document defects in the bug tracking system (e.g., Azure DevOps), including steps to reproduce, logs, and supporting evidence.
- Communicate findings to stakeholders.
- Verify bug fixes and firmware updates through targeted retesting and regression cycles prior to release.
- Assist in developing and maintaining test cases, test scripts, and test scenarios for new software and firmware features.
- Test new and legacy applications across web, client–server, cloud, mobile platforms as well as firmware.
- Assist developers and support team in diagnosing and reproducing issues.
- Support the design and implementation of complex testing solutions and environments that include software and hardware.
- Contribute to automation efforts using modern test frameworks and tools.
- Estimate, prioritize, and coordinate testing efforts to meet project deadlines.
- Work on multiple projects independently while keeping stakeholders informed.
- Communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders and share knowledge across the team.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or 4+ years of hands-on QA experience, with a solid understanding of QA methodologies, processes, and deliverables.
- Demonstrated experience testing hardware–software integration in complex systems.
- Strong troubleshooting skills with network communication issues, including diagnosing and resolving connectivity and configuration problems.
- Experience with a range of QA tools and processes, demonstrating adaptability and technical competence in modern testing practices.
- Proficiency in working with virtualized environments (e.g., VMware, VirtualBox, Hyper-V) for test setup, execution, and isolation.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Exposure to access control, intrusion detection or video surveillance systems.
- Experience with bug tracking and test management tools (Azure DevOps, Jira, or similar).
- Strong proficiency with SQL Server, including writing queries and analyzing data to support test activities.
- Working knowledge of both Windows and Linux operating systems, demonstrating versatility across environments.
- Experience testing mobile applications across multiple platforms (iOS, Android).
- Experience testing client/server and web-based applications.
- Experience testing RESTful APIs and services.
- Exposure to test tools and automated testing frameworks (e.g. Playwright, Selenium, Postman, Pytest, Robot Framework).
- Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Python to support automation and improve QA efficiency.
- Prior experience collaborating with offshore teams.
