Pediatric Surgeon - Junior Consultant - Government Facility

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Junior Consultant – Pediatric Surgeon to join our Government Healthcare Facility in the UAE.
The successful candidate will provide specialized surgical care to infants, children, and adolescents with congenital, developmental, and acquired surgical conditions. The role includes preoperative assessment, surgical planning, operative management, postoperative care, and follow-up.
The Junior Consultant will work collaboratively with pediatricians, neonatologists, anesthesiologists, radiologists, intensivists, nurses, and other multidisciplinary healthcare professionals to provide safe, evidence-based, and family-centered care.
- Assess, diagnose, and manage pediatric patients requiring surgical intervention.
- Conduct comprehensive preoperative evaluations and develop appropriate surgical treatment plans.
- Perform pediatric surgical procedures within the scope of training, clinical privileges, and professional competence.
- Manage common pediatric surgical conditions, including congenital anomalies, gastrointestinal disorders, abdominal conditions, hernias, appendicitis, and other pediatric surgical presentations.
- Participate in the management of neonatal surgical conditions and congenital abnormalities, as appropriate to experience and clinical privileges.
- Assess and manage pediatric surgical emergencies and acute abdominal conditions.
- Participate in emergency surgical procedures and provide timely stabilization and treatment.
- Perform and assist with elective and emergency pediatric surgical procedures.
- Provide comprehensive postoperative care and monitor patients for complications.
- Coordinate perioperative care with pediatric anesthesia, pediatric intensive care, neonatology, and other relevant specialties.
- Review and interpret appropriate laboratory tests, ultrasound, X-ray, CT, MRI, and other diagnostic investigations.
- Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and clinical case discussions.
- Communicate clearly with children and their parents/caregivers regarding diagnosis, treatment options, surgical risks, benefits, and expected outcomes.
- Provide appropriate postoperative instructions and follow-up care.
- Maintain accurate and timely medical records, operative notes, and clinical documentation.
- Ensure compliance with infection-control standards, surgical safety protocols, hospital policies, and UAE healthcare regulations.
- Participate in clinical audits, morbidity and mortality meetings, quality improvement initiatives, and patient-safety programs.
- Support teaching, training, and supervision of junior medical staff where appropriate.
- Participate in continuing medical education and professional development.
- Participate in on-call, emergency, weekend, and public holiday duties as required.
- Medical degree (MBBS, MBChB, or equivalent) from a recognized medical institution.
- Recognized postgraduate qualification in Pediatric Surgery or an equivalent specialty qualification recognized by the relevant UAE health authority.
- Relevant post-specialization experience appropriate for a Junior Consultant position.
- AMERICAN BOARD qualified candidates preferred.
- Demonstrated clinical experience in pediatric surgical assessment and management.
- Experience managing pediatric surgical emergencies.
- Strong knowledge of pediatric surgical principles and evidence-based practice.
- Excellent clinical decision-making and surgical skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary pediatric healthcare team.
- Commitment to patient safety, clinical quality, and professional ethics.
- Proficiency in English; Arabic is an advantage.
