We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Junior Consultant – Pediatric Emergency Medicine to join our private healthcare facility. The successful candidate will provide high-quality, timely, and compassionate emergency care to infants, children, and adolescents presenting with acute illnesses, injuries, and medical emergencies.
The role requires strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced pediatric emergency environment while maintaining high standards of patient safety and clinical care.
Key Responsibilities- Assess, diagnose, stabilize, and manage pediatric patients presenting to the Emergency Department.
- Provide emergency medical care to infants, children, and adolescents with acute and critical conditions.
- Perform comprehensive history taking and age-appropriate physical examinations.
- Recognize and manage pediatric emergencies, including respiratory distress, sepsis, shock, seizures, trauma, allergic reactions, dehydration, and other acute conditions.
- Initiate and participate in pediatric resuscitation and stabilization of critically ill patients.
- Perform or assist with appropriate emergency procedures within the physician's scope of practice.
- Order, review, and interpret laboratory investigations, imaging, ECGs, and other diagnostic tests.
- Determine appropriate patient disposition, including discharge, observation, admission, referral, or transfer.
- Provide clear explanations and appropriate counseling to parents and caregivers regarding diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up.
- Work closely with pediatricians, emergency physicians, nurses, specialists, and other multidisciplinary healthcare professionals.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and timely medical records and clinical documentation.
- Ensure compliance with facility policies, clinical guidelines, infection-control procedures, and patient-safety standards.
- Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, and continuing professional development.
- Support junior doctors and other clinical staff through appropriate supervision, guidance, and teaching.
- Participate in shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and public holidays as required.
- Medical degree (MBBS, MBChB, or equivalent) from a recognized medical school.
- Recognized postgraduate qualification in Pediatrics, Pediatric Emergency Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or an equivalent specialty, as applicable to the facility's licensing requirements.
- Relevant postgraduate clinical experience in pediatric emergency care.
- Current BLS and PALS certification.
- ATLS or equivalent pediatric/trauma emergency training is an advantage.
- Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic, resuscitation, and emergency management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, particularly when communicating with children and their parents/caregivers.
- Ability to remain calm and make sound clinical decisions in high-pressure situations.
- Strong teamwork and multidisciplinary collaboration skills.
- Commitment to patient safety, professional ethics, and evidence-based clinical practice.
- Proficiency in English; additional languages are an advantage.
