We are seeking an experienced and highly qualified Senior Specialist – Brain Injury Medicine to join our Government Hospital in the UAE.

The successful candidate will provide specialized medical assessment, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation planning, and ongoing management for patients with traumatic and acquired brain injuries. The role involves working closely with neurology, neurosurgery, rehabilitation medicine, emergency medicine, critical care, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, psychology, and other multidisciplinary teams.

The successful candidate will contribute to high-quality, evidence-based care, patient safety, clinical education, and service development within the hospital's brain injury program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess and manage patients with traumatic and acquired brain injuries across acute, subacute, and rehabilitation settings.
  • Provide comprehensive neurological and medical assessment of patients following traumatic brain injury (TBI), stroke, hypoxic brain injury, and other acquired brain injuries.
  • Develop individualized treatment, rehabilitation, and follow-up plans based on the patient's clinical condition and functional needs.
  • Identify and manage complications associated with brain injury, including seizures, cognitive impairment, behavioral changes, spasticity, dysphagia, communication difficulties, and mobility impairment.
  • Assess patients with altered consciousness and other acute neurological presentations and coordinate appropriate emergency management.
  • Monitor neurological status and clinical progress and modify treatment plans when required.
  • Collaborate with neurosurgeons, neurologists, intensivists, rehabilitation specialists, emergency physicians, and other clinical teams.
  • Lead and participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and case conferences.
  • Coordinate rehabilitation goals with physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, psychologists, nurses, and social workers.
  • Provide appropriate medical management of pain, spasticity, seizures, sleep disturbances, behavioral symptoms, and other complications related to brain injury.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and their families regarding diagnosis, prognosis, treatment options, rehabilitation goals, and long-term care.
  • Provide education and counseling to families and caregivers regarding ongoing patient needs and community reintegration.
  • Maintain accurate, comprehensive, and timely clinical documentation and medical records.
  • Request and interpret relevant laboratory investigations, neuroimaging, EEG, and other diagnostic investigations as clinically appropriate.
  • Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, research, and development of brain injury services.
  • Support clinical education, mentoring, and supervision of junior physicians and healthcare professionals.
  • Promote evidence-based clinical practice and adherence to hospital policies, UAE regulations, and international standards.
  • Participate in on-call duties, multidisciplinary coverage, and other clinical responsibilities as required.
  • Medical degree (MBBS, MBChB, or equivalent) from a recognized medical institution.
  • Recognized postgraduate specialist qualification in Neurology, Neurosurgery, Rehabilitation Medicine/Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, or another relevant specialty.
  • Relevant advanced training or clinical experience in Brain Injury Medicine, Traumatic Brain Injury, Neurorehabilitation, or Acquired Brain Injury.
  • Appropriate post-specialization experience for a Senior Specialist position.
  • Strong knowledge and clinical experience in the assessment and management of traumatic and acquired brain injuries.
  • Current BLS certification; ACLS certification is preferred.
  • Excellent clinical decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong multidisciplinary teamwork and leadership abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
  • Commitment to patient safety, quality improvement, evidence-based practice, and professional ethics.
  • Proficiency in English; Arabic is an advantage
