Scott Family Amazeum Overview

The Scott Family Amazeum is a hands-on, interactive museum in Northwest Arkansas and recognized as a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization. We create a fun environment where risk taking, imagining, problem solving, discovery, collaboration, and exploration bring children and adults together to learn and grow.

Core Purpose: The Amazeum exists to spark and nurture the curious and creative spirit in all of us. Through experiences with the Amazeum, individuals and the community are engaged in building relationships and developing identities as creative, curious, and innovative shapers for the region. Learning at the Amazeum is an active, playful exploration that inspires curiosity. It is rooted in inquiry-based discovery and involves an element of risk. Hands-on learning opportunities allow guests to exercise critical thinking in the context of play.

The Amazeum facility includes approximately 50,000 square feet of indoor space and one acre of outdoor exhibition and activity space. The museum is located at the intersection of Museum Way and J Street in Bentonville, AR.

Position Summary

Café Associate at the Scott Family Amazeum supports daily operations at Headwaters Café by providing excellent guest service, preparing food and beverages, taking orders through the café point-of-sale system, bussing tables, restocking supplies, and maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming café environment. Individuals in this position will help create a positive, efficient, family-friendly dining experience for Amazeum guests, members, school groups, caregivers, children, and staff. Cafe Associates rotate between food preparation, cashiering, guest service, cleaning and other cafe support duties throughout scheduled shifts. This position reports to the Café Chef and Manager.

Essential Functions

Provide excellent customer service for guests, members, caregivers, children, team members , and visitors.
Warmly welcome café guests, answer questions, and offer guidance on menu items, ordering, pickup, and seating
Effectively operate the café point-of-sale system in accordance with established procedures, entering orders accurately and processing payments
Accurately process cash, credit card, mobile payment, discount, and gift card transactions as applicable
Prepare and assemble café menu items according to approved recipes, portion standards, food safety procedures, and presentation expectations
Assist with breakfast items, grab-and-go items, snacks, handhelds, bowls, kids’ meals, coffee, beverages, and other café offerings as assigned
Maintain clean, organized, and stocked food prep, beverage, service, and cashier stations throughout the shift
Follow food safety standards including handwashing, glove use, allergen awareness, proper food storage, labeling, dating, FIFO rotation, and temperature control
Monitor food quality, product levels, and expiration dates; notify a supervisor when items are low, expired, damaged, or not meeting quality standards
Clean and sanitize dining areas , bus tables, empty trash, and respond promptly to spills or safety concerns.
Restock service supplies and cafe materials as needed. Assist with dishwashing, smallwares cleaning, equipment cleaning, and end-of-shift sanitation tasks as assigned
Support opening and closing procedures, including cleaning checklists, station setup, restocking, and securing food and supplies
Assist with receiving, organizing, and storing food, beverage, paper goods, and café supplies as needed
Help maintain appearance and functionality of café workstations, guest queues, pickup areas, seating areas, and related spaces
Communicate effectively and respectfully with fellow café team members and leadership to support efficient operations and guest satisfaction
Support café operations during school group visits, events, peak attendance periods , and extended operating hours as needed
Maintain professional and respectful interactions consistent with Amazeum values and department standards
Perform additional duties as required

QualificationsMinimum Requirements

Minimum age of 16 years at the time of hire
Attained, or working towards, a High School diploma or GED
Available to work weekdays, at least one weekend day, nights, and some holidays as necessary
Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with guests, team members, and leadership.
Basic culinary knowledge with the ability to prepare, assemble, and serve food and beverage orders accurately.
Demonstrated ability to remain positive, friendly, and professional while working efficiently in a fast-paced café or guest service environment.
Ability to learn to use technology, including (point-of-sale) POS systems and other café-related applications.
Ability to learn cash handling and using basic math skills to process guest transactions accurately.

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
Ability to manipulate objects with fingers and hands, stand, walk, reach, bend and stretch.
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout scheduled shifts
Ability to safely operate standard café and kitchen equipment
Ability to move quickly and safely in a fast-paced café and kitchen environment
Ability to communicate effectively in a fast-paced and occasionally noisy environment

Preferred Skills

6+ months food service experience
6+ months customer service experience
Experience with using POS systems and databases
Bilingual is a plus
