Position Summary
In this role, you’ll become Griff the Griffin, Westminster’s mascot! As Griff, you’ll represent the college and help build school spirit by attending non-athletic campus and community events. Your responsibilities include greeting visitors, providing photo opportunities, distributing promotional materials, and utilizing a curated gender-fluid wardrobe. This position offers a chance to develop your character and marketing skills while increasing your engagement with campus life. Hours vary depending on event volume, and the role does not exceed 10 hours per week.
This position is only available to current students of Westminster University.
Duties & Responsibilities
• Mascot Representation: Wear the Griff costume to attend non-athletic events, engaging with students, prospective students, donors, and the community.
• Character Development: Help develop Griff’s persona, maintaining consistency in body language, attitude, mannerisms, and interactions to preserve the character’s identity.
• Wardrobe Curation: Select and wear a variety of Griff’s outfits for different events, contributing to the creation of a gender-fluid wardrobe (e.g., formal, casual, preppy styles).
• Event Engagement: Welcome guests, provide photo opportunities, and distribute promotional materials to build school spirit and promote Westminster College.
• Team Collaboration: Work alongside the marketing team to ensure Griff’s representation aligns with the overall college messaging.
Learning Outcomes
Student employees in this position will:
• Develop communication and interpersonal skills by interacting with a wide range of audiences at events.
• Gain experience in event promotions and marketing through real-world application in the college setting.
• Learn about character development, identity preservation, and the power of brand representation through a mascot.
• Enhance creativity and teamwork by collaborating with the marketing team to represent Westminster effectively.
Qualifications
- Must be in a good physical condition and able to lift and wear the costume (approximately 10-20 pounds).
- Ideal height for correct costume fit would be between 5’7” and 5’11”.
- Dance or other performance experience preferred.
- Previous experience as a mascot actor is a plus.
