This position is responsible

Assists in picking-up donations by riding in a Salvation Army truck and lif ting, carrying, and/or hauling
donations into the truck and unloading the same at the warehouse; assists in navigating for the Truck
Driver; ensures the accountability, security, and safety of the donations when in route; assists in
maintaining the vehicle in proper working order and in compliance with established standards; assists in
performing work in the thrif t/family store and warehouse. When needed: Sorting responsibilities; receives,
sorts, prices and prepares donated items for display in the store; determines suitability and pricing of
items based on established standards; assists in maintaining the orderliness and cleanliness of the
warehouse area. Cleans and maintains the stores and storage facilities.

Key Responsabilities

Rides in a Salvation Army truck on a scheduled route in order to pick -up donated items; assists in
navigating driver to destinations by reading a map and/or hand -written directions.
Inspects donated items brief ly to ensure they can be used according to established policies and
procedures; explains policy to customers regarding the types of items that can be accepted.
Lif ts, carries, and/or hauls donations into truck; packs items in truck in a manner that maximizes use of
space, protects items f rom damage, and ensures safety.
Prepares donation receipts for customers; ensures the accuracy and completeness of the same.
Maintains good relationship with donors to promote a favorable image of The Salvation Army.
Unloads donations f rom truck upon arrival at warehouse; distributes items to appropriate locations in the
warehouse.
Loads truck of items to be taken to the dump.
Delivers appliances and furniture purchased by customers.
Performs routine maintenance of the truck; checks fluid levels regularly; coordinates and may
participate in repair work as needed.
Receives, inspects and sorts donated items such as clothes, shoes, household items, bric-a-brac, etc. according to the category and condition.

Selects items suitable for store display and distributes same to appropriate area for further sorting and/or
pricing; discards items in accordance with established procedures.

Tags items with specially coded tickets and/or prices in accordance with established procedures.
Hangs clothes on hangers and places the same on clothes racks.
Packs items in boxes and marks boxes accordingly; assists in transporting boxes to the appropriate storage
area.
Prepares non-suitable clothes for the bailer.
Lifts and carries items to the appropriate destination for further processing, storage or displaying in store.
Maintains warehouse area in a neat and orderly manner; cleans floors, tables and work areas.
Cleans and sanitizes bathrooms; cleans sinks and toilets, polishes mirrors, and replenishes supplies.
Sweeps, vacuums, mops, and waxes floors; sweeps sidewalks.
Cleans windows; dusts and polishes furniture and fixtures.
Empties trash cans; collects trash from grounds.
Assists in monitoring light fixtures to ensure all light bulbs are in working order; replaces light bulbs as necessary.
Cleans donated furniture and appliances before they are priced and displayed.
Removes trash and non-saleable items from the store to the outside trash area or dumpster in the rest of the store.
Assumes the responsibilities of the truck driver as needed.
Assists in performing work in the warehouse as needed.
Assists in maintaining the neatness and cleanliness of the warehouse and loading dock area.
Performs other related work as required

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Work requires riding in a vehicle daily with exposure to the outdoors, where there are physical discomforts
associated with changes in weather such as rain, cold, snow, heat or discomforts associated with noise,
dust, dirt, and the like.

Work requires the ability to lift and carry and/or push/pull heavy (50-100+ lbs.) materials, supplies, and
equipment frequently. Heavy mobility; duties are usually performed by combinations of standing, walking,
climbing ladders or steps, bending, reaching, or transporting merchandise on frequent change basis
relieved by fewer periods of sitting or operating a vehicle.

Work is performed in a stock-room, warehouse, or store environment where there are discomforts
associated with changes in whether; there are occasional discomforts associated with noise, crowds,
dust, lint, chemical odors and the like.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR IN YOU No formal education required,
and
Six (6) months' experience lifting and hauling heavy items such as appliances and furniture,
or
Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and
abilities.
