As a Financial Capability Worker (Intake Operator), you become that steady and reassuring presence. You guide individuals and families through immediate challenges, connect them with the right support and help them feel hopeful about the future. This role makes a genuine difference from the very first conversation and creates a pathway for people to rebuild confidence, capability and long-term financial wellbeing.

About the role

This role sits at the heart of our intake service, supporting people who are experiencing financial hardship. You will respond to inbound calls to the National Debt Helpline, provide accurate information and support, complete triage and assessment and connect callers to appropriate services if required. You will also conduct individual appointments for a range of support programs. You will also contribute to community engagement activities and keep service information on the Affordable SA website current and accessible.

This permanent full-time position sits within the Community Engagement team, reporting to the Moneycare SA/NT Team Leader. Pay is in accordance with a SCHADS Level 3.

How you will make an impact

  • Answer inbound calls to the National Debt Helpline and provide responsive and supportive information and triage for people experiencing financial hardship

  • Book appointments for financial counsellors and capability workers and ensure they are provided with relevant information.

  • Conduct individual appointments for a range of support programs, funding schemes and service-related applications

  • Attend or deliver community education sessions identified as beneficial to intake services

  • Maintain accurate and current information on the Affordable SA website

  • Meet all data collection requirements including SAMIS

  • Stay informed about community needs and TSA support offerings through learning and team participation

What you will bring

  • Cert IV in Community Services or related field or willingness to obtain, with Financial Literacy Education Skill Set desirable

  • Ability to learn call centre systems and strong digital literacy

  • Ability to work under conflicting time pressures while maintaining appropriate self-care

  • Commitment to inclusive and culturally respectful practice with people from diverse backgrounds

  • Experience supporting people in crisis, recognising referral needs and advocating effectively

  • Ability to identify solutions and improve systems or processes

  • Working with children check
