LRC MISSION STATEMENT: The Salvation Army Lighthouse Recovery Center is committed to helping individuals who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, and who have a problematic substance use by providing a drug-free and supportive living and learning environment, encouraging spiritual growth and strengthening life skills necessary in their transition to a more meaningful and fulfilling life.
JOB SUMMARY
Employees in this class are responsible for the care of clients with substance use disorder living in a residential treatment center or as an outpatient basis during assigned shifts (regular, swing and/or graveyard shifts).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Upon orientation of the drug testing procedures and protocol, the residential assistant must be able to administer urinalysis or oral swap drug test to adult female clients.
- Ensures the safety and security of .residents and personnel utilizing the building after normal working hours.
- Performs a variety of sub-professional tasks such as taking temperature, checking blood pressure, and monitoring medications and simple treatments.
- When required may transport and escort clients to their appointments and errands.
- Serves as a socializing agent, both in individual and group contacts with clients.
- Observes and reports clients’ behavior, and client-staff interactions.
- Assists in the maintenance of a safe, orderly and therapeutic environment.
- Ensures that residents and personnel utilizing the building behave according to rules, policies, and guidelines set by management.
- Respond to the needs of the clients.
- Supports and works with Disaster Response Programs and directed by the Director of Emergency Disaster Services, or Corps Officers and is a member of the Disaster Response Team.
- May be assigned tasks and responsibilities at or for any Salvation Army unit on Guam or Micronesia.
- Must maintain a lifestyle of sobriety from illicit drugs.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:
- Knowledge or ability to learn the signs of substance use.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions in detail.
- Ability to work effectively with the public and employees.
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing
SKILLS/TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE:
- High school or General Education diploma. Some college experience preferred.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Training and experience in recovery from substance use disorder desired.
- Should have general knowledge of island social services and be able to assist with applications.
- Must be responsible, with good anger management skills, and be able to handle spontaneous situations capably.
- Must be able to communicate effectively, verbal and in writing, with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds.

EQUIPMENT NEEDS:
Use office equipment such as computers, photocopiers, scanners, calculators, etc.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Most work will be indoors at The Lighthouse Recovery Center. Attendance at trainings, both on and off island, may be required.
