- BASIC PURPOSE
The Junior Accountant will assist with the accounting and payroll functions of the Finance Department. The duties performed are for the Del Oro and Golden State Divisions.
- ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Pay employees by calculating pay and deductions and issuing checks.
- Assist locations in collecting and verifying timekeeping information for employees.
- Process wage garnishments.
- Generate payroll registers.
- Assist with seasonal (Christmas and Camp) payroll.
- Perform financial analyses on government grants.
- Process mobile bank deposits.
- Post and process journal entries.
- Assist with reviewing of expenses, payroll records etc. as assigned.
- Assist with audit preparation for external and internal audits.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Accounting Manager or Controller.
COMMUNICATIONS
- Answer the telephone, transfer calls, and take messages.
- Direct communication with Corps by Phone and Lotus Notes.
- KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Associates Degree, bachelor’s degree or Accounting Certification from an accredited college or trade school. preferred.
- Two years’ experience in the accounting field. With an Accounting Degree or Certification, less experience will be considered.
- Must be computer literate and able to work in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook or email program with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Experience with Shelby accounting software and/or Ultipro payroll software preferred.
- Must be able to understand, follow and receive English written and oral instructions.
- Ability to speak, read, comprehend, write and communicate effectively in the English language and in a professional manner.
- Ability to maintain patience and courtesy in dealing with a wide range of people and their needs.
- Must be well organized, self-motivated, flexible, and possess good people skills.
- Ability to address multiple projects in a time sensitive manner is essential.
- Must possess the self-discipline necessary to perform repetitive tasks without lowering quality of work.
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to maintain highest level of security in addressing oral and written communications as well as the filing of correspondence to protect the integrity.
- PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis.
- This position is primarily sedentary and requires the ability to remain at a keyboard for periods of up to two hours with minimal interruption. Ability to operate a keyboard is essential.
- Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision.
- Must be able to use speech and hearing for both ordinary and telephone conversation.
- Ability to grasp, push, and/or pull objects.
- Ability to reach overhead.
- Ability to operate telephone.
- Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to operate a computer.
- Ability to process written, visual, and/or verbal information.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally working near moving mechanical parts. The noise level is usually moderate.
