SMG is seeking a HSE Environmental Coordinator in Aiken, SC. Per diem is available for this role.
The HSE Environmental Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the implementation of environmental compliance programs, permit requirements, corporate environmental policies, standards, procedures, and strategic environmental goals within their assigned region, plant, and project scope. The duration for this project is estimated at 2 years.
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve site HSE and environmental management systems to ensure legal compliance and best-practice performance.
- Lead ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 implementation and maintenance, including internal auditing support and corrective/preventive action tracking.
- Oversee compliance with environmental regulations, including monitoring requirements, environmental impact evaluations, and management of waste, emissions, and other discharge controls.
- Conduct and document HSE inspections of facilities, machinery, and safety equipment; identify hazards and partner with leaders to implement effective controls.
- Lead or support environmental and safety incident/near-miss investigations (including interviews and reporting), develop recommendations, and monitor progress of improvement programs.
- Obtain, update, and maintain HSE plans, permits, and standard operating procedures for new builds and projects, ensuring timely reviews and regulatory applicability.
- Deliver and coordinate HSE training (including new-employee orientations) and provide clear presentations and materials to strengthen understanding, engagement, and compliance culture.
- Maintain and improve emergency response readiness and support Occupational Health programs (e.g., industrial hygiene, respiratory protection, hearing conservation, and ergonomics); provide technical support for remediation and special projects as required.
- Support projects related to new equipment, machinery, and test stands to evaluate their safety and environmental impacts and requirements.
Requirements
- 5 plus years of HSE Environmental experience
- Bachelor's Degree required - EHS, Environmental Science, or other related field
- Strong knowledge of health and safety laws, as well as the chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances, including their uses, interactions, warning signs, production techniques, and disposal methods
- Excellent ability to use relevant information and individual judgment to evaluate whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards for protecting the environment and people
- Strong organizational, planning, and follow-up skills, with good knowledge of manufacturing and production processes, quality control, costs, and techniques for maximizing effective production
- Strong analytical ability alongside troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for highly complex issues, and good ability to interpret blueprints, schematic drawings, layouts, or other visual aids
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with others, complemented by strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to travel (approximately 20%), with flexibility regarding working hours.
