The Principal, Australia Corporate Tax, is a senior leadership role responsible for delivering exceptional client service, driving strategic tax advisory initiatives, and leading high-performing teams. This role plays a critical part in enhancing Ryan’s reputation in the Australian market, fostering client relationships, and contributing to the firm’s growth and profitability.

Duties and responsibilities, as they align to Ryan’s Key Results

People:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of tax professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Promote Ryan’s values and support employee engagement and retention initiatives.
  • Provide coaching and career development opportunities aligned with individual and team goals.
  • Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion across the team and broader organisation.

Client:

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, delivering strategic corporate tax solutions tailored to their business needs.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, ensuring high levels of satisfaction and retention.
  • Lead complex tax engagements, including compliance, advisory, and planning projects.
  • Identify opportunities to expand services and deepen client relationships.

Value:

  • Drive revenue growth through business development, cross-selling, and client expansion.
  • Ensure high-quality deliverables and compliance with Australian tax regulations and professional standards.
  • Contribute to the development of innovative tax strategies and thought leadership.
  • Monitor market trends and regulatory changes to proactively advise clients and inform internal strategy.

Education and Experience:

  • Professional qualification required.
  • Extensive experience in Australia corporate tax, ideally gained in a Big Four or leading advisory firm.
  • Proven track record of managing complex tax engagements and leading client relationships.
  • Experience in team leadership and business development.

Computer Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Familiarity with tax compliance and research software (e.g., CCH, Onesource, Alphatax).
  • Comfortable using CRM systems and digital collaboration tools.

Required Skills:

  • Strong technical knowledge of Australia corporate tax legislation and regulatory practices.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strategic thinking and commercial acumen.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver under pressure.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with international tax and cross-border transactions.
  • Familiarity with tax technology and automation tools.
  • Thought leadership in tax policy or industry-specific tax issues.

Certificates and Licenses:

  • Professional certification is required.
  • Additional qualifications in international tax or transfer pricing are advantageous.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Direct supervision of Managers, Senior Associates, and Associates within the Australia Corporate Tax team.
  • Responsible for performance management, goal setting, and professional development of team members.
