The NERC O&P Compliance Lead supports the RWE Americas (RWEA) NERC Internal Compliance Program established to maintain compliance with mandatory North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Operations and Planning (O&P) Standards and applicable Independent System Operator (ISO) and Regional Transmission Organization (RTO) requirements for power generation and battery systems.
The successful candidate will be expected to work with minimal supervision; solve complex problems; make decisions for all issues related to their discipline(s) with limited and/or available information; and become a subject matter expert in the NERC Standards and Requirements and other relevant subject matter areas.
Role Responsibilities:
- Assists in the development, implementation, coordination, and monitoring of the RWEA NERC O&P compliance program including the development and maintenance of associated program requirements (e.g., policies, processes, procedures, and guidance)
- Maintains knowledge of the NERC Reliability Standards and regional standards that apply to Generator Owners and Generator Operators, as well as applicable ISO requirements
- Assists with compliance to applicable FERC Orders, NERC Reliability Standards, ISO/RTO market rules, and other compliance requirements through research, data/evidence collection, analysis, and compliance submissions to the appropriate reliability entities
- Collects, reviews, organizes, and preserves evidence of compliance with the NERC O&P Standards and Requirements in coordination with internal departments to support regulatory requests and audits
- Provides support to internal departments responsible for adherence to compliance requirements including the development and delivery of training and the dissemination of compliance guidance and industry best practices
- Maintains understanding of NERC compliance monitoring and enforcement processes
- Leads investigative analysis for potential non-compliance and the development and submission of self-reports and mitigation plans to NERC
- Leads periodic internal compliance assessments and spot-checks on applicable NERC O&P Standards
- Leads data gathering and development of responses for regulatory compliance requests, self-certifications, enforcement actions, data requests, and audit requests, including the submission of responses
- Leads the tracking of new and revised NERC O&P Standards and with Compliance Impact Assessments
- Leads projects as assigned
- Identifies areas for improvement in the NERC O&P compliance program
- Other duties as assigned
Job Requirements and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree required
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a NERC compliance role with renewable power generation and battery systems experience preferred. Other experience in regulatory, legal or a compliance-related field may be considered
- Advanced knowledge of NERC O&P Standards and their application across generation and transmission assets
- Serves as SME for assigned Standards and guides internal teams
- Interprets and implements regulatory Changes
- Addresses complex compliance challenges and multi-standard issues
- Designs solutions to improve compliance readiness
- Anticipates operational impacts from regulatory changes
- Leads cross-functional initiatives to address compliance readiness
- Serves as key contact for assigned NERC Standards with regulators and internal stakeholders
- Oversees compliance program areas for multiple Standards
- Provides guidance and training to others
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook), Teams, AirTable and SharePoint
