Key accountabilities:
- Aero-thermal design and development of aero-engine gas turbine combustion chambers and its components.
- Teaming-up the global Rolls-Royce combustion team and supporting the development of Rolls-Royce low emissions combustion technology and methodology focusing on NOx and particulate emissions (nvPM).
- Managing the trades for combustion between operability, emissions, efficiency and thermo-acoustics defining safe, creative, robust and optimised solutions while managing risk and applying new technology as appropriate.
- Supporting the group to work on aero-thermal combustion tasks of all Rolls-Royce gas turbines in development and in-service.
- Applying and developing in-house computational tools and methods during all phases of the combustor design definition phase to derive understanding of component and system level interactions in high temperature environments.
- Definition, support and analysis of validation experiment; feed-back of test results and implementation of design changes into new technology developments from low TRL and high TRL rigs up to engine validation levels.
- Define and support National and European funded R&T programmes to acquire new combustion technologies with universities and sub-contractors.
Qualification:
- Engineering degree in mechanical or aerospace technology or equivalent degrees or experience, potentially PhD.
- Profound knowledge in fluid mechanics and thermodynamics; experience in gas turbine combustion and in design and operation of aero-engine combustors preferred.
- Technical knowledge on the field of aero-engine emissions preferably non-volatile particulate matter.
- An ability to apply logical, analytical and innovative thinking on a range of technical problems and make balanced decisions across technical and business parameters.
- Good communication skills, team spirit and team player.
