The Position
The Position
At Roche, we are shaping the future of healthcare through data and digital innovation. We are looking for a Platform Architect / Senior Solution Architect to lead the design and evolution of our Event-Driven Architecture (EDA) and Data Streaming platforms.
In this role, you will define and drive the architectural vision for scalable, secure, and high-performance data integration platforms, enabling real-time data flow across the enterprise. You will play a critical role in transforming how Roche leverages streaming data to accelerate insights and improve patient outcomes.
Your Mission
You will act as a technical and architectural leader, responsible for designing business-driven, standards-based, and future-ready solutions across complex, multi-product ecosystems.
You will:
Establish and evolve event-driven and streaming architecture patterns
Drive platform strategy and roadmap for Kafka, Solace, and related technologies
Ensure solutions meet non-functional requirements (NFRs) including scalability, resiliency, security, and observability
Enable enterprise-wide adoption of streaming and event-driven integration
Key Responsibilities
Architecture Leadership & Strategy
Define and communicate a shared architectural vision for Data Streaming and Event-Driven platforms
Develop and maintain the technology roadmap, aligning with Roche’s enterprise architecture strategy
Drive reference architectures, patterns, and integration standards for EDA and streaming
Lead architecture governance, including Architecture Decision Records (ADRs) and design reviews
Solution Design & Delivery
Design end-to-end event-driven solutions across business domains
Create conceptual and logical data models, taxonomies, and integration patterns
Ensure solutions are fit-for-purpose, balancing emergent design with long-term sustainability
Embed observability, resilience, and performance engineering into platform designs
Platform Ownership (Kafka / Solace / Streaming Ecosystem)
Lead architecture for data streaming platforms (e.g., Kafka, Solace, Kinesis)
Define topic design, event schemas, and data contracts
Ensure high availability, disaster recovery, and multi-region architectures
Drive platform scalability, security, and governance
Innovation & Continuous Improvement
Evaluate and pilot emerging technologies and trends in EDA and streaming
Conduct proofs of concept (PoCs) and feasibility studies
Identify opportunities to reduce technical debt and improve platform efficiency
Promote reuse of integration patterns across the enterprise
Stakeholder Collaboration
Partner with product managers, engineers, and business stakeholders
Facilitate workshops to define business processes and integration needs
Align with enterprise architects and contribute to architecture communities
Communicate complex concepts clearly and influence decision-making
Your Profile
Experience
5+ years as a Solution Architect / Platform Architect
Proven experience designing event-driven and streaming architectures in enterprise environments
Hands-on experience with platforms such as:
Apache Kafka / Confluent Kafka
Solace Event Broker
AWS streaming services (Kinesis, MSK)
Experience in highly regulated industries (pharma, healthcare, finance) is a plus
Technical Expertise
Deep knowledge of:
Event-Driven Architecture (EDA) and Streaming patterns
Data lifecycle management (ingestion, integration, governance, analytics)
Cloud platforms, especially AWS
Strong understanding of:
Distributed systems, networking, security, and data platforms
Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity strategies
Data modeling, event schemas, and topic hierarchies
Architecture & Leadership Skills
Ability to define reference architectures, NFRs, and fitness functions
Experience managing complex, multi-solution landscapes
Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
Proven ability to mentor and guide engineering teams
Soft Skills
Excellent communication and stakeholder management
Ability to influence and negotiate across teams
Strategic mindset with a hands-on, pragmatic approach
