Robots & Pencils is seeking a Senior Android Developer to join a dedicated delivery team focused on evolving safety-critical and customer facing mobile applications used daily by field crewssupervisorsand customersThe team’s work emphasizes reliabilityoffline supportsecurityand regulatory compliance while delivering ongoing platform improvements and technical modernization over a multi-year engagement. 

You’ll work in a mature Agile environment alongside stakeholders and internal team members to deliver roadmap initiatives and full-feature development.  

This role is ideal for an Android engineer with deep experience in Kotlin and Android development, a strong product mindsetand a commitment to building reliablemaintainableand high-quality mobile applications. 

 Key Responsibilities 

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance Android applications using Kotlin and Android SDK. 
  • Implement offline-first functionality and ensure app reliability in low-connectivity environments. 
  • Integrate with REST APIs, Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM), and third-party mobile SDKs. 
  • Collaborate with UX/UI designers to deliver high-quality, production-ready features. 
  • Ensure app performance, security, and compliance with enterprise and regulatory standards. 
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver complete feature slices in an Agile environment. 
  • Advocate for code quality, maintainable architecture, and continuous improvement. 

 
Required Skills & Qualifications 

  • 5+ years of professional Android development experience. 
  • Strong proficiency in Kotlin and Android SDK. 
  • Experience with Android Studio, Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM), REST APIs, and third-party mobile SDKs. 
  • Solid understanding of mobile app architecture, offline-first design, and performance optimization. 
  • Familiarity with Git and modern version control workflows. 
  • Experience working in Agile environments and delivering high-qualityenterprise-grade applications. 

 
Nice to Have 

  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines for Android apps. 
  • Knowledge of Jetpack Compose or modern Android UI frameworks. 
  • Experience with analytics, monitoring, and mobile app testing frameworks. 
  • Exposure to regulated enterprise environments or safety-critical applications.
