Overview:

The main role of the Peer Mentoring Assistant is to provide administrative support for the Peer Mentoring program within the RMIT University Library.

Peer Mentoring Officers assist students by responding to general enquiries, providing information about the program, and referring students to appropriate services or Peer Mentors where required. The role also supports the day-to-day operations of the program, including basic administrative tasks, maintaining records, and assisting with program activities.

The position may involve working across Library sites or supporting both online and in-person activities. Training will be provided in customer service, systems, and program processes.

Key Accountabilities

  • Provide front-line support to students, including responding to general enquiries about the Peer Mentoring program.
  • Provide information and refer students to Peer Mentors or appropriate Library and Study Support services.
  • Assist students with accessing peer mentoring platforms.
  • Undertake routine administrative tasks such as updating records and preparing basic program materials.
  • Provide general support to the Peer Mentoring team and assist with activities or tasks as directed.

Key Selection Criteria

Essential:

  • Effective communication skills, particularly when interacting with students and staff.
  • Ability to follow processes and complete tasks accurately.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Basic computer skills, including email and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Customer service skills and a willingness to assist students.

Qualifications

  • completion of a trades certificate; or
  • completion of year 12, with relevant work experience; or
  • equivalent relevant experience or combination of relevant experience and education/training.

Working with Children Check

Appointment to this position is subject to holding a valid Victorian Working with Children Check and other checks as required by the specific role. Maintaining a valid Working With Children Check is a condition of employment at RMIT.
