Job Summary

The RISD Store seeks temporary sales associates to provide assistance to students. The workweek consists of a schedule of 16-35 hours per week. Interested applicants must be willing to work a flexible schedule including weekends.

Temporary positions at the RISD Stores provide the following:

  • 20% store discount

  • RIPTA Transportation to and from work

  • Free admission to the Museum

The mission of the RISD stores is to support the creative pursuits of our students and customers through a unique, inspiring, and informative shopping experience. The temporary sales clerk will provide quality customer service by waiting on customers and answering product-related questions in a courteous, helpful, and knowledgeable manner. The incumbent will perform detailed work in an accurate manner by using a cash register to ring up sales, receive payment, and make sure to stock work areas with merchandise, as necessary, by retrieving stock from the storeroom. Additional duties include applying labels and price tags on merchandise and shelving units, cleaning relevant work spaces, and pre-cutting materials, as needed.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide quality customer service by waiting on customers and answering product-related questions in a courteous, helpful, and knowledgeable manner.

  • Perform detailed work in an accurate manner by using a cash register to ring up sales, receive payment and make change.

  • Stock work areas with merchandise, as necessary, by retrieving stock from the storeroom.

  • Apply labels and price tags on merchandise and shelving units.

  • Clean shelves, counters, tables, and work areas.

  • Pre-cut materials, as needed.

Please note that Temporary Sales Associates will be cross trained in all RISD Retail departments to provide assistance, as required.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Experience:

  • High school diploma.

  • Applicants must have previous retail experience, strong telephone, and personal communications skills.

  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and hold multicultural competencies appropriate for working with a diverse range of constituents.

  • Ability to cross-train in other RISD Auxiliary Services departments such as the Mail Room.

  • Proven ability to interact with members of the community representing diverse backgrounds and interests.

Valued but not required skills and experience:

  • Art and design background preferred with knowledge of art supply application and contemporary art and design history.

  • Computer experience preferred.

16-35 hours per week. Nights and weekend shifts may be required.

Mondays and Wednesdays from 11 am to 7 pm.
