Senior Game Designer, Maps - Wild Rift
About this role
Riot Games was established in 2006 by entrepreneurial gamers who believe that player-focused game development can result in great games. In 2009, Riot released its debut title League of Legends to critical and player acclaim. As the most played video game in the world, over 100 million play every month. Players form the foundation of our community and it’s for them that we continue to evolve and improve the League of Legends experience.
We’re looking for humble but ambitious, razor-sharp professionals who can teach us a thing or two. We promise to return the favor. Like us, you take play seriously; you’re passionate about games. We embrace those who see things differently, aren’t afraid to experiment, and who have a healthy disregard for constraints.

As a Senior Game Designer on League of Legends: Wild Rift, you will own and evolve the map layouts, terrain architecture, neutral objectives, and jungle monster systems that drive the strategic depth and pacing of Summoner’s Rift. You will design, implement, and optimize core map features, ensuring they deliver an engaging, fair, and dynamically competitive environment optimized for a mobile audience.
You will collaborate closely with Balance and System designers to integrate structural map changes and objective reworks into the core SR gameplay. You will utilize your spatial design expertise and player empathy to navigate complex design challenges, ensuring every environmental and objective adjustment aligns with Riot's design philosophy.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the lifecycle, structural map design, and live iteration of core map features, neutral objectives, and jungle monster mechanics on Summoner's Rift.
- Set quality and execution standards for terrain layout, map visibility, and objective mechanics, delivering high-clarity documentation that enables seamless cross-functional implementation.
- Partner with the Balance Designer and System Designer to ensure all map terrain changes, objective overhauls, or monster system adaptations safeguard competitive integrity.
- Synthesize player feedback, high-level telemetry, and game data to diagnose systemic flaws or communication bottlenecks, driving long-term map and environmental updates.
Required Qualifications:
- 6+ years of experience in professional Game Design.
- 3+ years of experience in either Map Design or Level Design.
- Can create complex mechanics and systems with attention to the player impacts and downstream effects.
- Deep level of understanding, passion, and engagement with MOBA games.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience working on a live product.
- Is familiar with the LoL IP.
- Professional working proficiency in English.
For this role, you'll find success through craft expertise, a collaborative spirit, and decision-making that prioritizes the delight of players.
