Senior Game Designer, Balance - Wild Rift
About this role
Riot Games was established in 2006 by entrepreneurial gamers who believe that player-focused game development can result in great games. In 2009, Riot released its debut title League of Legends to critical and player acclaim. As the most played video game in the world, over 100 million play every month. Players form the foundation of our community and it’s for them that we continue to evolve and improve the League of Legends experience.
We’re looking for humble but ambitious, razor-sharp professionals who can teach us a thing or two. We promise to return the favor. Like us, you take play seriously; you’re passionate about games. We embrace those who see things differently, aren’t afraid to experiment, and who have a healthy disregard for constraints.
That's where you come in.
As a Game Designer on League of Legends: Wild Rift, you will serve as the foundational craft anchor for the newly established Summoner’s Rift design team. You will lead the overarching live-game balance strategy, evolution, and tuning for a global mobile player base of millions.
Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and fellow senior designers, you will leverage your deep understanding of competitive player motivations, systemic mechanics, and mobile game development to maintain a healthy, fair, and ever-evolving metagame. You will define the core balance philosophy for Wild Rift, collaborating closely with the League of Legends PC team to establish and align balancing frameworks, ensuring that every champion, item, and tactical shift aligns with Riot’s design principles.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the balancing design, patch tuning, and long-term systemic health of the core Summoner’s Rift experience for Wild Rift.
- Set quality and execution standards for core MOBA elements (champions, pacing, tuning), partnering with Systems and Map designers to safeguard competitive integrity.
- Partner directly with the League of Legends (PC) design team to share insights, collaborate on competitive data, and set the benchmark bars for the Wild Rift balancing framework.
- Synthesize complex data streams into actionable balance adjustments and robust live-ops frameworks.
- Collaborate closely with Creative, Product, and Publishing disciplines to ensure the live gameplay vision is holistic, consistent, and cleanly executed from the player's perspective.
Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in professional Game Design.
- 3+ years of experience in Balancing.
- Can create and improve complex mechanics and/or systems with attention to the player impacts and downstream effects.
- Deep level of understanding, passion, and engagement with MOBA games.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience working on a live product.
- Is familiar with the LoL IP.
- Professional working proficiency in English.
Don’t forget to include a resume and cover letter. We receive a lot of applications, but we’ll notice a fun, well-written intro that shows us you take play seriously.
