About the role

We are looking for a Maintenance Operations Technician / Technician, Feed & Byproducts Maintenance to help our maintenance operations team support equipment reliability across Rio Tinto Kennecott. In this role, you will collect and record asset health information that supports preventative maintenance programs and helps our teams make informed maintenance decisions.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on technical work, follows safe and consistent work practices, and wants to contribute to the long-term performance of critical mining and processing assets.

What you’ll be doing

Reporting to the Maintenance Operations leadership team and working in a safety-focused, collaborative maintenance environment, you will be:

  • Applying monitoring, sampling, and testing techniques to gather asset health data for fixed and mobile plant equipment
  • Recording and maintaining accurate data to support preventative maintenance programs and asset management decisions
  • Identifying potential asset defects within established parameters and escalating concerns to the appropriate team members
  • Preparing asset condition and performance information to support planned maintenance and reliability improvements
  • Following standardized work routines, safety requirements, and site procedures while completing inspections and testing activities
  • Sharing observations, trends, and improvement opportunities that may help improve equipment reliability and performance
  • Coaching or supporting less experienced team members when needed

Required for Success

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • Practical experience with equipment monitoring, sampling, testing, inspections, or similar maintenance support activities
  • Ability to follow standardized work routines and complete accurate, timely records
  • Ability to interpret basic asset health data and identify potential defects within established parameters
  • Basic understanding of asset management principles, preventative maintenance, or reliability programs
  • Current authorization to work in the United States. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship

Helpful for Success

  • Technical qualification, trade background, or equivalent on-the-job experience in maintenance, operations, mining, manufacturing, processing, or a related environment
  • Experience supporting teammates through coaching, guidance, or knowledge sharing

Where you’ll be working

Our Kennecott mine is a world-class, fully integrated copper mining operation, including a concentrator, smelter, and refinery, located just outside Salt Lake City, Utah, in the United States. We produce copper, precious metals including gold and silver, molybdenum, and sulfuric acid. Kennecott has been mining and processing minerals from the rich ore body of the Bingham Canyon Mine since 1903 and is one of the top producing mines in the world, comprising approximately 11 percent of U.S. annual copper production.
