About the role

We are looking for a Coordinator, Smelter & Refinery Services to manage, coordinate, and optimize contractor support services across Kennecott smelter and refinery operations. In this role, you’ll be a central point of accountability for contractor service delivery, operational logistics, Health, Safety and Environment compliance support, and stakeholder coordination, helping work get delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with Rio Tinto standards.

What you’ll be doing

Reporting to the Smelter & Refinery Services leadership team and working in a safety-focused operational environment, you will be:

  • Managing and coordinating contractor services that support daily operations, shutdowns, and improvement projects
  • Owning contractor onboarding, Contractor Management System compliance, site access, system permissions, and required approvals
  • Coordinating scheduling, mobilization, logistics, equipment rentals, and cost control for contractor services
  • Supporting Health, Safety and Environment compliance, reporting, incident support, field verification, and contractor performance follow-up
  • Partnering with Operations, Health, Safety and Environment, Supply Chain, and external contractors to align priorities, resolve issues, and maintain service continuity
  • Monitoring field activity to support safe work practices, personal protective equipment use, and compliance with Rio Tinto Kennecott and OSHA standards
  • Leading continuous improvement opportunities, implementing best practices, and improving contractor service delivery and utilization
  • Representing contractor service perspectives in supplier engagements, stakeholder forums, and Health, Safety and Environment standards discussions

Required for Success

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience managing contractor partners, service providers, or contractor support services in an industrial, processing, mining, manufacturing, or similar operational environment
  • Demonstrated experience with contractor governance, onboarding, compliance, site access, approvals, and contractor management processes
  • Experience supporting Health, Safety and Environment compliance, reporting, incident support, or field verification in a safety-critical environment
  • Ability to manage logistics, scheduling, cost control, competing priorities, and stakeholder updates in a fast-moving operational setting
  • Current authorization to work in the United States. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship

Helpful for Success

  • Experience using SAP, ISN, Contractor Management System tools, or similar systems that support contractor compliance and performance management
  • Experience supporting shutdown activities, contractor mobilization, equipment rental coordination, or site services in a safety-critical environment
  • Experience leading continuous improvement initiatives, implementing best practices, or improving contractor service delivery across stakeholder groups

Where you’ll be working

Our Kennecott mine is a world-class, fully integrated copper mining operation, including a concentrator, smelter, and refinery, located just outside Salt Lake City, Utah, in the United States. We produce copper, precious metals including gold and silver, molybdenum, tellurium, and sulfuric acid. Kennecott has been mining and processing minerals from the rich ore body of the Bingham Canyon Mine since 1903 and is one of the top producing mines in the world, comprising approximately 11 percent of U.S. annual copper production.
