Position Summary

Welders are involved in the fabrication and welding of structural steel and ornamental iron products. Fabrication work may include cutting, bending, drilling, welding and painting of materials and are required to operate forklifts and other steel fabrication equipment. Steel fabricators are involved in assisting customers, suppliers and fellow employees.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensures that fabrication is completed accurately, timely and in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Performs the appropriate calculations when cutting/fabricating materials to maximize product usage and limit the amount of waste or drop.
  • Set up and operate welding machines based on shop floor jobs and welding specifications.
  • Read and interpret drawing and prints to determine the specific welding requirements.
  • Calculate and use charts to convert decimals to fractions as well as the ability to use tape measures and angle gauges
  • Knowledge of production processes, quality control and other production techniques that will maximize the effective manufacturing of our products
  • Must be able to work in a culture of continuous improvement, where accountability for the work done is expected.
  • Ensures that work is accomplished safely and meets efficiency and quality standards
  • Detail oriented and ability to read and interpret technical documents, drawings and blueprints
  • Produce fabricated steel products in a timely manner while maintaining a high quality of workmanship.
  • Ensures a safe work area in compliance with Company and OSHA policies. Keeps the fabrication shop near and orderly.
  • Maintains all equipment in good working condition.
  • Processes paperwork in accordance with Company policies.
  • Keeps Supervisors informed of shortages, overages, or damaged materials; refers customer complaints/compliments to Supervisor.
  • All other duties assigned.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years fabrication & welding structural steel experience
  • Ability to lift up to 100 pounds and stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to utilize fabrication/welding equipment, such as punches, shears, press brakes and other equipment
  • Welder Certifications between 1G-6G
  • Personable with good communication skills
  • Valid Driver’s License
