Position Overview
Richter is looking to hire a professional at the VP level to join the restructuring practice in Toronto. Our diverse engagements involve the diagnosis of a company’s financial position leading to business turnaround situations, restructuring and/or the sale of all or part of a business. Our primary clients are companies that are facing economic uncertainty due to a variety of issues such as underperformance of the business, an imminent liquidity crisis and/or an inability to raise new capital. When organizations are faced with such business challenges, Richter’s restructuring professionals work with the company’s directors, senior executives, senior lenders and external advisors to manage the crisis and provide hands-on expertise to assist these businesses to emerge financially stronger and effect a successful outcome.
Responsibilities
Work in a collaborative team assisting with various tasks including:
- Work on both informal and formal corporate restructuring and insolvency engagements
- Lead clients through fast-tracked distressed M&A activities
- Deal with various key stakeholders throughout the crisis period including debtors and creditors
- Develop and implement corporate turnaround strategies
- Assess companies’ financial position and forecasts
- Prepare financial models and cash flow analysis
- Perform financial due diligence and ad hoc financial analyses
- Investigate financial anomalies and/or trends
- Prepare business reports and presentations of our recommendations to major financial institutions, legal counsel, equity sponsors, and other stakeholders
- Contribute to developing marketing presentation and proposal materials
- Utilize technical and insolvency knowledge and work with legal counsel on legal and insolvency related issues
- Manage and develop junior staff members
- Participate in business development initiatives
Requirements
- Undergraduate or graduate degree with a focus on finance and accounting
- CPA and/or MBA completed
- Currently holds or is a candidate to become a Chartered Insolvency and Restructuring Professional (CIRP)
- Minimum 8 + years of previous experience with a Canadian professional services firm or chartered bank; experience within a financial advisory and / or deals environment is considered an asset
- Specific restructuring, operational turnaround and/or insolvency experience is highly desirable
- Superior financial analysis skills with a result-oriented approach
- Ability to critically review financial statements and many other types of documents to rapidly recognize characteristic patterns
- Experience in the preparation and analysis of cash flows, financial projections, and viability assessments
- Ability to identify key issues during an engagement and make recommendations
- Creative thinker, ability to think “outside the box” and be innovative
- Excellent communication skills and report writing abilities
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work well under pressure
- Flexible, true team player attitude
- Ability to travel within Canada, or occasionally to the U.S./internationally
