Position Summary:

The Small Tools & Equipment Technician is responsible for the control, tracking, inspection, maintenance, and repair of company-owned small tools and support equipment. This role ensures tools are safe, operational, and accurately tracked to support field and shop operations. The position plays a key role in maintaining asset accountability, supporting job cost accuracy, and ensuring operational readiness across crews.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Tool & Equipment Control

  • Manage check-in and check-out process for tools and small equipment.
  • Track equipment usage and maintain accurate location records.
  • Contact field operators to confirm ongoing equipment needs.
  • Provide equipment usage reports to warehouse and accounting for accurate job charging.

Inspection & Maintenance

  • Inspect tools and equipment for damage, wear, and safety concerns.
  • Perform minor repairs on malfunctioning tools and equipment.
  • Coordinate larger repairs with Fleet Manager or approved vendors.
  • Maintain accurate repair and maintenance records.

Inventory & Parts Support

  • Assist with small parts inventory management and organization.
  • Run parts as needed to support shop and field operations.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe storage areas.

Shop Support 

  • Support overall shop operations and assist with additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience in a shop, fleet, construction, or equipment environment preferred.
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to safely operate tools and shop equipment.
  • Basic computer skills for tracking and reporting purposes.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently while supporting a team environment.

Working Conditions / Environment: This position operates in a shop environment.

This position routinely operates in a variety of physical positions, such as sitting, bending, reaching, standing, walking, driving (automatic and standard), squatting, and frequent lifting up to 50 lbs. 

This position requires use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms, talk, or hear. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.   

Regular exposure to all weather conditions, especially hot, humid and/or rainy spring, summer, and fall weather, combined with regular work time indoors in environmentally controlled conditions.  

May be exposed to uncomfortable or distracting sounds or noise levels on sites of projects being managed or coordinated. When working onsite, will be required to wear common protective of safety equipment, such as safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, hard hats, and safety vest.
