Location:Office/Remote

Hours:37.5 hours per week/As defined by Site secondment policy

Role Intent: Deliver civil work packages with engineering judgement under the RES management system and regulatory environment.

The Position

The Civil Project Engineer provides engineering support across renewable energy projects in Australia, supporting the delivery of civil construction works including roads, foundations, drainage, and associated infrastructure.

The role involves coordination of contractors, interpretation of design documentation, and support to construction delivery, ensuring compliance with Australian Standards, environmental approvals, and contractual requirements.

The position requires the application of sound engineering judgement to assess construction methodologies, resolve site-based technical issues, and contribute to risk mitigation and engineering assurance processes. This includes supporting the verification that constructed works are fit-for-purpose and compliant with design intent.

The Project Engineer is expected to contribute across multiple projects and scopes where required. The role is not limited to a single project assignment, and individuals may be directed by line management to support other projects, packages, or business activities from time to time.

Site-based engineers are part of the broader delivery team and are expected to support site activities as directed by the Project Manager or Site Manager. The role is not limited to a single engineering discipline, and engineers are expected to assist across different areas of the project where needed to support delivery, safety and coordination on site.

Key Accountabilities

  • Support delivery of civil construction packages including coordination of contractors and monitoring performance against project objectives (safety, quality, cost, and program).
  • Apply engineering judgement to assess drawings, specifications, construction methodologies, and site conditions.
  • Identify, assess, and escalate engineering risks related to safety, quality, environmental compliance, and constructability.
  • Monitor compliance with Australian Standards, regulatory approvals, environmental requirements, and contract obligations.
  • Review contractor documentation including method statements, ITPs, and quality records to support engineering assurance.
  • Support verification processes to ensure works are constructed in accordance with approved designs and specifications.
  • Contribute to project reporting including progress, cost, risk, and schedule updates.
  • Assist procurement activities including development of scopes of work and technical input to tender evaluation.
  • Coordinate with consultants, contractors, and internal stakeholders to resolve technical issues and interface challenges.
  • Provide clear and concise technical communication to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Support delivery across multiple projects and scopes concurrently as directed by line management.

Knowledge

Skills

Civil engineering principles relevant to roads, drainage, earthworks and foundations.
Working knowledge of Australian Standards and applicable HSE and environmental legislation/approvals.
Understanding of construction methodologies, sequencing and constructability considerations.
Awareness of quality assurance/quality control practices and engineering verification processes.
Basic understanding of contract scope requirements and interface management.

Ability to apply engineering judgement under guidance and escalate issues appropriately.
Ability to identify and communicate technical risks and constraints.
Strong written and verbal communication, including with non-technical stakeholders.
Planning, coordination and organisational skills across multiple priorities.
Competency with MS Excel, Word and scheduling tools (MS Project/Primavera as applicable).
Collaborative team behaviour, including working effectively in distributed/virtual teams.

Experience

Qualifications

Experience on civil construction or infrastructure projects, ideally within renewable energy.
Exposure to contractor supervision/coordination and site-based delivery.
Experience supporting technical assessments, quality documentation and reporting.

Civil Engineering degree (or equivalent).
Engineers Australia chartership progression desirable (working toward CPEng).
Full Australian Driver’s Licence.
