About this role

The Director, Business Development is responsible for evaluating and executing the company’s mergers and acquisitions, licensing transactions, and strategic partnerships across the enterprise. Working closely for and with the SVP of Business Development and Strategy, this position will serve as a key liaison between Repligen businesses, external companies and partners to build a portfolio of investments and acquisitions aimed at driving double digit growth and profitability in bioprocessing.

This is a hands on, detail oriented leadership role. The successful candidate will operate comfortably across all levels of the organization, as well as with internal and external partners —driving analyses, deal execution, and cross functional coordination required to conduct due diligence, close and integrate transactions and strategic investments in a public company environment. Experience in biopharma, med tech, and/or bioprocessing – as well as assessing and applying digital / AI solutions across a portfolio – preferred.

Key Responsibilities

Business Development, M&A, and Strategic Investments

  • Identify, evaluate, and prioritize inorganic growth opportunities, including:
    • Mergers and acquisitions
    • Asset, technology, and IP licensing (in‑licensing and out‑licensing)
    • Strategic alliances and partnerships
  • Lead the end‑to‑end execution of transactions, including:
    • Target identification and strategic fit assessment
    • Financial modeling, valuation, and scenario analysis
    • Commercial, technical, legal, and financial due diligence
    • Deal structuring and term sheet development
    • Internal approvals and Board‑level materials
    • Closing execution
  • Serve as a point of contact for external partners, licensors, licensees, and advisors (investment bankers, legal counsel, consultants)
  • Ensure consistency, rigor, and discipline across all transaction types

Licensing Strategy, Alliance Management & Execution

  • Work with leadership to develop and execute a licensing and strategic partnership strategy aligned with the company’s broader growth and portfolio objectives
  • Lead complex licensing agreements, including scope, diligence, execution and alliance management post close
  • Partner closely with R&D, Legal, Finance, and Commercial teams to evaluate technical feasibility, value creation, and risk
  • Oversee ongoing performance of licensed assets and ensure contractual obligations are met

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or advanced degree strongly preferred
  • 5-7 years of experience in business development, investment banking, management consulting, private equity, or related fields
  • Demonstrated experience executing M&A and licensing transactions within a public company environment
  • Strong financial and analytical capability, including valuation, deal modeling, and ROI analysis
  • Skillset to assess and apply digital / AI companies, tools and services
  • Experience in life sciences, biopharma, bioprocessing or med tech M&A preferred

The estimated base salary range for this role, based in the United States of America is $208,000-$299,000. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to an individual's qualifications, location, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, employees are eligible to participate in one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
