DEFINITION

The Behavioral Health Technician is responsible for supervising the daily movement and activities of adult men and women receiving services in Renewal, Inc.'s licensed inpatient drug and alcohol treatment programs. This position helps maintain a safe, secure, and structured therapeutic environment by monitoring client activities, enforcing program rules, and supporting the overall operation of the treatment units.

Primary responsibilities include maintaining facility security through routine headcounts, locker and personal searches, urine screening, and monitoring client movement. The Behavioral Health Technician is responsible for maintaining order and cleanliness within the unit, ensuring client accountability, overseeing assigned housekeeping duties, and monitoring attendance at scheduled groups, classes, and other program activities.

This position must effectively assess and prioritize both emergency and non-emergency situations, exercise sound judgment, and respond appropriately to changing circumstances. The Behavioral Health Technician works collaboratively with Clinical, Security, and other interdisciplinary staff members throughout the building to promote client safety, treatment engagement, and successful program participation.

 

Eligibility Requirements

To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team; Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment; Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict-resolution skills; Ability to remain calm, professional, and assertive during crisis situations while maintaining safety and control; Sound judgment, problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to make appropriate decisions under pressure.

Education and/or Experience

High School diploma or GED equivalency required. Two years’ related experience required. Experience working in substance use, behavioral health or related human services field preferred. Life experience preferred. Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license and required background clearances including the Act 33 and Act 34 are required.
