WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?

Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) seeks a Lead Strategy and Transformation Consultant to join the Compliance Technology team. This role bridges business strategy, regulatory requirements, and technical delivery, serving as a critical link between Compliance, Risk, and Engineering stakeholders.

You will perform primarily as a Technical Business Analyst, translating complex compliance challenges into product requirements and technical solutions. You will work autonomously on ambiguous problems, collaborate with senior executives, and drive strategic initiatives that strengthen RBC's compliance posture while optimizing operational efficiency.

This is a role for a strategic contributor in a fast-evolving regulatory and AI-driven technology landscape.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Business Analysis & Requirements Definition

  • Conduct business analysis across compliance and risk domains to identify requirements, pain points, and opportunities
  • Translate regulatory obligations and risk mitigations into clear, testable user stories and acceptance criteria
  • Model business processes and systems interactions to identify control gaps and improvement opportunities
  • Partner with compliance and audit teams to ensure requirements are auditable and defensible

Strategic & Product Leadership

  • Contribute to product roadmap prioritization using risk-based, outcome-focused frameworks
  • Conduct business strategy analysis to evaluate trade-offs between regulatory risk, delivery risk, adoption risk, and long-term maintainability
  • Identify and articulate regulatory drivers, business justifications, and non-negotiable constraints for engineering teams
  • Develop product vision and strategy narratives for senior stakeholder alignment

Technical Enablement & AI Integration

  • Evaluate and recommend AI tools, automation opportunities, and API integrations that strengthen compliance controls
  • Conduct data analysis to support decisions and measure control effectiveness
  • Understand technical architecture, system dependencies, and data flows to inform requirements and roadmap feasibility

Stakeholder Communication & Executive Presence

  • Present strategy, requirements, and trade-offs confidently to senior leadership and regulatory audiences
  • Facilitate cross-functional workshops with Compliance, Risk, Technology, and Audit
  • Translate complex regulatory concepts into business language and vice versa
  • Document rationale, assumptions, and decision drivers for regulatory/audit scrutiny

Compliance & Governance

  • Ensure all product decisions are documented and traceable from regulation → requirement → control → evidence
  • Contribute to internal control management and compliance frameworks
  • Identify and escalate regulatory interpretation gaps, jurisdictional differences, and ambiguities
  • Support audit and regulatory examinations with clear, evidence-based documentation

WORKING CONDITIONS & EXPECTATIONS

  • Occasional travel to other RBC offices
  • Availability for meetings with global stakeholders (time zone flexibility)
  • Ability to handle ambiguous, high-stakes regulatory and strategic problems
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, change-driven environment
  • Willingness to participate in regulatory examinations, audits, and board-level discussions

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED?

MUST-HAVE SKILLS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Computer Science, Finance, Law, or related field, OR equivalent professional experience demonstrating analytical rigor and business acumen

Business Analysis & Requirements

  • Demonstrated expertise in business analysis methodologies and frameworks
  • Proven ability to gather, analyze, and translate business requirements
  • Strong user story writing and acceptance criteria development
  • Familiarity with BA tools and frameworks (specific tools vary; strong process discipline is key)

Technical & Data Competencies

  • Proficiency in SQL or database querying (hands-on ability to query and analyze data)
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills (data modeling, analysis, visualization)
  • Demonstrated AI literacy; understanding current AI capabilities, limitations, and real-world applications
  • Ability to evaluate AI tools and automation opportunities critically

Product & Strategy

  • Experience with product management concepts, methodologies, and stakeholder alignment
  • Ability to conduct strategic business analysis and trade-off assessment
  • Understanding of roadmap prioritization and outcome-focused delivery

NICE-TO-HAVE SKILLS:

  • 5+ years of professional experience in business analysis, product management, compliance, or strategy roles
  • Experience in financial services, regulatory compliance, or risk management
  • Certification or training in BA methodologies (IIBA CCBA, Agile BA, Six Sigma, etc.)
  • Experience working in matrix organizations or regulatory environments

Business Analysis & Requirements

  • Experience with advanced BA techniques (e.g., business process modeling, systems thinking, value stream mapping)
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirement mapping and compliance-specific BA frameworks

Technical & Data Competencies

  • Python programming experience
  • Data analytics and business intelligence experience
  • Data visualization skills (Tableau, Power BI, or similar)
  • API design and integration knowledge

Product & Strategy

  • Product roadmapping and product vision development experience
  • Experience defining and communicating product strategy to executive audiences

Tools & Platforms

  • Hands-on experience with Atlassian JIRA and Confluence (RBC's collaboration platform)
  • Familiarity with other project management or BA tools (Monday, Asana, ProductBoard, Aha!, etc.)

Project & Process Management

  • Project management and delivery experience
  • SOP development and process improvement background
  • Experience with deliverables management in matrix or complex organizations
