Compensation
$130,000-$190,000 / year (total compensation)
Position Summary
Reporting to the Lead Signal Specialist, the Signal Specialist shall be present in the field during removal, installation and layout of all signal equipment and related work. Support testing and placing equipment in-service. Must be available to work weekdays and weeknights along with weekends as required to support the projects schedules. Will work on multiple projects as required. Will attend related meetings and assisting the project team with coordination. This is an hourly rate position with the ability to work overtime as the contract requires.
Primary/Essential Responsibilities and Duties
- Be present on tracks during signal equipment layout and removal phase.
- Review and sign installation drawings and clipboard sketches.
- Supervise foreman and electricians with groundwork installations, wiring & testing.
- Maintain signal related testing tools and equipment in ready-for-service condition.
- Writing signal bulletins and daily reports as required by the project’s needs.
- Plan and direct various circuit and signal changes.
- Must be at work site from time of commencement of the signal work until such time the signal work has been completed and accepted by MTA.
- Preparing status reports and charts.
- Verifying all signal work is installed to NYCT standards and approved documents.
- Preparing Tag lists
- Attend related meetings as required.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Request 10 years’ experience in NYCT Signaling System and a minimum of 2 years in Signal Contracts.
- Must be approved by MTA as a signal specialist.
- Must take training courses for all NYCT work credentials including MTA track safety, OSHA 30,
- Previous electronics training would be an asset
- Three (3) years of recent related experience. Railway or construction experience would be an asset
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Works outdoors at construction sites and indoors
- Likely works off-hours and weekends to match construction schedules.
- Frequently stands, walks, climbs, balances, stoops, and crouches while negotiating work areas under construction
- Sits, reads, writes, and uses a keyboard
- May be exposed to harsh weather conditions including very hot and very cold weather
- May be exposed to loud noise.
