What you will do:

The Truss Designer is responsible for designing residential related truss systems according to architectural plans, customer specifications, applicable code requirements, and manufacturing standards. Using specialized truss design software, this role translates construction plans into accurate truss layouts and profiles, coordinates customer approvals, processes design revisions, and performs final project reviews before releasing designs for production.

 

The ideal candidate combines truss design experience, construction knowledge, technical accuracy, and strong customer service skills while effectively managing multiple projects and deadlines.

Truss Design & Technical Documentation

  • Design truss systems from architectural drawings, blueprints, and customer-provided plans
  • Use Alpine or other approved truss design software to develop accurate truss designs that meet project requirements
  • Review construction plans and specifications to identify dimensions, structural requirements, and project-specific design considerations
  • Prepare truss profiles, layouts, and related design documentation for customer review and approval
  • Verify designs meet applicable county code requirements and established company standards
  • Maintain accurate project and design documentation throughout the design process

Customer Review & Design Revisions

  • Provide customers with truss profiles and layouts for review and approval
  • Follow up with customers regarding design approvals, questions, and outstanding information
  • Review customer-requested changes and revise truss designs accordingly
  • Resubmit revised layouts and profiles for customer approval when necessary
  • Communicate clearly with customers regarding design requirements, revisions, and project status
  • Provide professional and responsive customer service throughout the design process

Production Readiness & Quality

  • Conduct final project reviews before scheduled production or shipment dates
  • Verify all customer-requested products, specifications, and design changes have been incorporated before production release
  • Review designs for accuracy, completeness, constructability, and production readiness
  • Identify and resolve design discrepancies before they affect manufacturing or delivery
  • Coordinate with Production and other internal teams to support accurate and efficient manufacturing
  • Help minimize design errors, production delays, material waste, and field corrections through thorough quality review

Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with Design, Sales, Production, and Operations teams to support successful project execution
  • Assist other designers with general design responsibilities as workload and business needs require
  • Share product, construction, and design knowledge with team members
  • Assist with training newer employees on established design processes and procedures
  • Communicate project concerns and potential delays promptly to the appropriate team members
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned

Safety & Continuous Improvement

  • Follow company safety policies and report unsafe conditions promptly
  • Maintain an organized and professional work environment
  • Participate in required meetings, training, and development activities
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to design accuracy, workflow, customer service, and production efficiency

What you will bring:

  • Strong knowledge of truss design and residential construction
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, blueprints, and construction plans
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to design accuracy
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and customer deadlines simultaneously
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing project requirements and priorities
  • Associate degree or higher preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of truss design experience
  • Experience using Alpine truss design software strongly preferred
  • Experience with other recognized truss design software may be considered
  • Strong knowledge of residential construction materials, methods, and framing practices
  • Experience reviewing residential architectural plans and construction documents
  • Familiarity with applicable residential building and local code requirements
  • Previous customer-facing or customer service experience preferred
  • Work is performed primarily in an office and design environment
  • Extensive computer and design-software use throughout the workday
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while reviewing plans and producing designs
  • Frequent interaction with customers, Design personnel, Sales, Production, and other internal teams
  • Occasional lifting of plans, documents, or office materials
  • Extended hours may occasionally be required to meet customer, production, or project deadlines
