Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee the day-to-day operational performance of the inbound logistics department, monitoring multi-team activity and executing real-time adjustments to meet departmental service level goals.
- Coordinate and track shipments, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to customer requirements. Oversee the movement of goods, ensure smooth shipping processes and meet customer expectations.
- Collaborate with suppliers, carriers, and internal stakeholders — including procurement, sales, warehouse, and quality teams — to plan and implement inbound logistics strategy.
- Communicate with suppliers and carriers to negotiate rates and resolve any transportation issues. Collaborate with suppliers and carriers to discuss rates and address any transportation challenges.
- Establish efficient transportation routes and delivery schedules and utilize technology solutions to track shipments and improve visibility across the inbound network.
- Monitor delivery times and shipment status, proactively identifying and resolving delays or transportation issues as they arise.
- Coach, develop, and manage Inbound Logistics Supervisors and Team Leads, ensuring they effectively drive frontline accountability.
- Review and analyze department-wide performance metrics to implement process improvements and enhance the carrier and supplier experience.
- Own shift-capacity and staffing planning; analyze volume forecasts and attrition data to project future staffing needs.
- Partner with Sales and Executive Leadership to resolve operational issues, standardize best practices, and improve cross-functional workflows.
- Ensure compliance with corporate policies, internal standard operating procedures, and transportation/logistics industry regulations (including DOT and FMCSA requirements).
- Maintain accurate records and documentation related to inbound logistics activities. Keep organized records of all inbound logistics activities, including invoices, reports, and tracking information.
Qualifications and Educational Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
- 3–5+ years of experience in inbound logistics, transportation, or supply chain management, including experience leading supervisors or teams.
- Proven experience negotiating rates and contract terms with carriers and suppliers.
- Strong knowledge of inbound logistics processes, routing and scheduling, and transportation regulations.
- Ability to manage, mentor, and track the professional growth of front-line leaders.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritize and manage changing demands in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and relationship-management skills for engaging suppliers, carriers, and cross-functional partners.
- Open to travel as needed.
