UCT is looking for a talented Tacker III to join us in Austin!

The Tacker III performs advanced layout, fit‑up, and precision tack welding to prepare complex metal assemblies for final weld and fabrication. This role interprets detailed blueprints, executes high‑accuracy alignments, and applies expert knowledge of heat effects, weld shrinkage, and fabrication techniques to ensure dimensional integrity. The Tacker III troubleshoots fit‑up issues, mentors junior tackers, supports continuous workflow, and upholds strict quality, safety, and customer standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Perform advanced layout, orientation, and alignment of complex parts and assemblies using detailed prints and specifications.

 

 

  • Execute precision fit‑up of tubing, micro‑fits, flanges, and multi‑component assemblies with minimal supervision.

 

 

  • Plan and sequence work using deep knowledge of geometry, heat effects, weld shrinkage, tolerances, and material characteristics.

 

 

  • Apply advanced straightening, tweaking, and heat‑shrinkage techniques to correct distortion and ensure dimensional accuracy.

 

 

  • Troubleshoot fit‑up and alignment issues; identify root causes and implement corrective actions.

 

 

  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior tackers on layout techniques, blueprint interpretation, and workmanship standards.

 

 

  • Collaborate with welders, inspectors, and production teams to maintain workflow and reduce rework.

 

 

  • Ensure all work meets company workmanship standards, quality requirements, and customer specifications.

 

 

  • Follow all safety, cleanroom, and manufacturing protocols as required.

 

  • Maintain excellent attendance and perform additional duties to support production operations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • 2-4 years of related experience in manufacturing/aerospace/engineering industry.
  • Able to comprehend electrical / mechanical drawings.
  • Able to work in cleanroom environment; wearing jumpsuits, safety helmet and safety shoes.

Educational/Certification Requirement: 

  • NITEC / Higher NITEC/ Professional Certificate or its equivalent.
  • Diploma in Mechanical/Electrical/Electronics /Mechatronics/Engineering.
