UCT is looking for a talented Mechanical Design Engineer III to join us in Hayward, CA!

The Mechanical Design Engineer III is responsible for designing and developing mechanical components and assemblies from concept through production release. This role creates detailed layouts, models, and manufacturing drawings while ensuring compliance with design standards, cost objectives, and manufacturability requirements. The position may coordinate the work of designers and technical support staff to deliver high-quality engineering solutions that meet performance specifications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform mechanical design engineering from concept stage through detailed manufacturing drawings using advanced CAD tools.
  • Prepare layouts, models, and detailed part drawings based on design specifications and industry standards, including GD&T.
  • Identify materials, processes, and specifications required for drafting and manufacturing.
  • Ensure designs meet cost objectives and incorporate principles of manufacturability and testability.
  • Develop assembly drawings and Bills of Material (BOM) from assembly models.
  • Calculate and verify that designs meet functional and performance requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve design issues and support project objectives.
  • Provide guidance and coordination for designers and technical support personnel as needed.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Expertise in 3D CAD software such as Pro-Engineer and SolidWorks; ability to generate accurate and complete manufacturing drawings.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD or MicroStation for design tasks.
  • Strong understanding of drawing standards, formatting, dimensioning, and GD&T principles.
  • Ability to analyze and validate designs from concept through production release.
  • Skilled in developing assembly models, layouts, and BOMs for complex mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge of cost-conscious design practices and design-for-manufacturability principles.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail in engineering design processes.
  • Ability to lead and coordinate technical teams in a matrix environment.

Educational/Certification Requirement:

  • Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering required. Master’s degree preferred.

Work Experience:

  • 8+ years’ experience in component and system design utilizing SolidWorks and Pro-Engineer.

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $108,00.00 and $172,700.00/year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including variable pay and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO (Paid Time Off) and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these additional compensation and benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.   

If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
