UCT is looking for a talented Engineer IV to join us in Hayward, CA!

The Engineer IV is a senior‑level individual contributor who provides advanced technical expertise to support, improve, and expand semiconductor manufacturing, equipment, or business processes. This role independently leads to complex engineering assignments, solves high‑impact problems, and drives improvements in performance, reliability, cost, and scalability. The Engineer IV partners cross‑functionally, mentors less‑experienced engineers, and contributes to strategic initiatives while exercising strong technical judgment with minimal supervision.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead complex engineering projects and problem‑solving efforts impacting manufacturing performance, product capability, or system reliability.
  • Analyze data, designs, or processes to identify root causes, risks, and improvement opportunities.
  • Develop and implement engineering solutions that improve yield, throughput, reliability, safety, sustainability, or cost.
  • Serve as a technical subject‑matter expert within assigned domain (process, equipment, manufacturing, test, facilities, systems, etc.).
  • Partner with Manufacturing, Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, IT, and Product teams to drive cross‑functional solutions.
  • Lead or significantly contribute to NPI, technology transfers, ramps, or major change initiatives.
  • Design, review, and approve technical documentation, specifications, procedures, and standards.
  • Apply structured problem‑solving methods (RCA, DOE, FMEA, SPC, DMAIC, etc.).
  • Assess engineering trade‑offs, risks, and impacts; make recommendations supported by data.
  • Support audits, investigations, customer escalations, or compliance activities as needed.
  • Mentor Engineers I–III through technical guidance, design reviews, and knowledge sharing.
  • Identify and drive continuous improvement opportunities within engineering workflows or systems.
  • Stay current on industry trends, technology advancements, and best engineering practices.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Minimum Qualifications
    • Significant experience in engineering roles supporting manufacturing, technology, or complex systems
    • Hands-on experience in the design, build, and integration of manufacturing and test equipment, including test fixtures, with strong expertise in electrical troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and equipment qualification.
    • Deep technical knowledge within area of specialization
    • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and data‑driven decision‑making skills
    • Ability to work independently on ambiguous, high‑impact problems
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical and non‑technical audiences
    • Proven ability to influence outcomes without direct authority
  • Preferred Qualifications
    • Semiconductor manufacturing, equipment, or advanced manufacturing experience
    • Experience supporting NPIs, factory ramps, or complex system implementations
    • Familiarity with statistical tools, modeling, automation, or digital systems relevant to domain
    • Demonstrated success improving operational, quality, or cost performance
    • Experience mentoring or acting as technical lead on projects

Educational/Certification Requirement:

  • Minimum Qualifications
    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Industrial,
  • Preferred Qualifications
    • Master’s degree in Engineering or related discipline

Work Experience:

  • 7+ years related experience in high-technology manufacturing, preferably in semiconductor capital equipment or related industry.

  • Materials, Software, Systems, or related field).

  • Professional certifications or advanced training relevant to specialty.

  • Lean, Six Sigma, or structured problem‑solving certification.

Overnight Travel:

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $108,000.00 and $172,700.00/ year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including variable pay and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO (Paid Time Off) and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these additional compensation and benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.  

If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
