Senior Software Engineer - Algorithms
About this role
Qedma is looking for a Senior Software Engineer with strong Python expertise and a passion for solving complex algorithmic problems. You'll work at the intersection of production software, algorithms, and quantum computing, collaborating closely with researchers to turn complex ideas and prototypes into robust, scalable production systems.
What You'll Do
- Bridge research and production environments, turning research prototypes and algorithmic concepts into production-quality software.
- Own software components end-to-end, from design and architecture through implementation, testing, performance optimization, and productionization.
- Implement and integrate complex algorithms in close collaboration with research teams.
- Develop and maintain company code across two key areas: research support systems that enhance our researchers' capabilities, and core product development code.
- Design software that is robust, scalable, maintainable, and correct across performance-sensitive and edge-case-heavy scenarios.
Why is This Role Unique?
- Core software engineering - The role is centered on software architecture, implementation quality, algorithms, performance, scalability, robustness, and maintainability. UI, database-heavy work, and DevOps are minimal to non-existent.
- Algorithmic depth - Solve complex computational and mathematically intensive engineering problems, not just standard backend challenges.
- Quantum computing focus - Work on emerging quantum computing technology. Prior quantum experience is an advantage, but is not required.
- Research-to-production collaboration - Work directly with quantum physicists and researchers and turn research ideas into reliable production software.
Responsibilities
nullRequirements
- 5+ years of professional software development experience, with meaningful hands-on Python experience.
- Strong software engineering skills, including system design, clean architecture, testing, performance, scalability, robustness, and maintainability.
- Proven end-to-end ownership of software components, from design and architecture through implementation, testing, optimization, and productionization.
- Strong algorithmic problem-solving skills, with experience implementing complex algorithms or solving mathematically intensive engineering problems.
- Experience in an R&D or technically deep industry environment, including algorithmic, mathematical, scientific, or research-driven development.
- Experience taking research prototypes or algorithmic concepts into production and turning them into robust, maintainable software.
- BSc in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related quantitative field - required.
Nice to Have
- Relevant MSc in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related quantitative field.
- Prior exposure to quantum computing, quantum algorithms, or quantum software - a strong advantage
- Effective use of modern AI-assisted development tools and workflows as part of day-to-day software engineering.
