Merchandising Intern - Fall 2026
About this role
Since our inception in 2017, Purple has been on a mission to redefine denim culture. Blending industrial design, streetwear, and luxury fashion, we've curated a collection of men's denim and luxury basics that transcend trends. At Purple, we take pride in challenging conventions through design that is grounded in a contemporary spirit and timeless quality.
Purple is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Merchandising Intern who wants to learn how product decisions translate into business — how an assortment is built, how products sell, and what the numbers say afterward. This educational opportunity will provide hands-on exposure to seasonal assortment planning, product analysis, wholesale market preparation, and merchandising processes.
The ideal student is curious about the “why” behind product decisions and passionate about denim, contemporary fashion, and streetwear.
To qualify for this internship, you must:
- Be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program and eligible to receive academic credit
- Be available to work on-site in our New York office 3–4 days per week
- Be able to commit to the Fall 2026 semester, approximately September 2026–January 2027
You'll work directly with the merchandising team across four areas:
- Assortment— Support seasonal line planning across denim and ready-to-wear: SKU, fit, color, and classification analysis, plus breadth, depth, and pricing work. Help maintain line lists and assortment tools.
- Business analysis—Pull weekly sales and inventory reports. Analyze performance by style, fit, color, account, and channel. Support sell-through and stock-to-sales analysis, and help spot top performers, underperformers, and replenishment or markdown opportunities.
- Wholesale & market— Help prepare for market appointments and line reviews, organize selling tools for the sales team, and support account-level and post-market order analysis.
- Product & team— Organize samples and seasonal line reviews, keep product information accurate across internal systems, and support merchandising projects and presentations.
Additional skills:
- Comfortable using MS Office Suite, particularly Microsoft Excel
- Curious about the "why" behind product decisions, not just the task
- Organized and accurate — merchandising runs on details
- Engaged with denim, contemporary fashion, and streetwear
- Coursework or prior experience in fashion, retail, or merchandising is a plus
Internship Details:
- Fall 2026 internship
- This is an unpaid internship and is available only to students receiving academic credit
- A daily lunch stipend will be provided for each working day on-site
- Opportunity to gain hands-on experience in fashion merchandising, assortment planning, business analysis, and wholesale.
If you are excited about this opportunity and interested in learning how product decisions translate into business performance, please apply with your resume and any relevant information for consideration.
We thank all applicants for their interest; however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
Company at a glance
Purple set out to solve a personal problem: men’s denim at the contemporary price point is simultaneously too simple and too complicated. Walk into the denim section of a high-end department store or boutique and you’ll find overwhelming walls of jeans with different fits and near-identical medium and light blue washes. Innovation in fit, hardware and washes generally happens at the designer level, with high price points.
Innovation shouldn’t be limited to designer denim, we thought. So we spent several years traveling the world to find the right production partners that allow us to create an accessible product with top-quality hardware, designer fits and innovative details.
In our time in the menswear industry, countless trends and movements have come and gone. But one thing has largely stayed the same: denim is the anchor of the modern man’s wardrobe. PURPLE is dedicated to making that anchor more interesting.
