Advanced Sniper Lead Instructor

Summary:

The Advanced Sniper Lead Instructor is responsible for the design, development, coordination, instruction, and continuous improvement of the III MEF EOTG Advanced Sniper Course and related sniper-training support activities. The position serves as the senior subject matter expert for advanced sniping, combat marksmanship, urban precision engagement, high-angle shooting, aerial sniper employment, ballistics, and sniper support to specialized limited-scale raids and Visit, Board, Search, and Seizure operations.

The Advanced Sniper Lead Instructor leads classroom and practical application training, evaluates student performance, maintains the accuracy and relevance of course content, and ensures instruction complies with approved Marine Corps Programs of Instruction, Training and Readiness standards, range requirements, and high-risk training safety protocols. The position also supports exercise planning, Course Content Review Boards, site surveys, sustainment training, and operational exercises as directed.

This position reports to the Program Manager/Operations Chief and is designated as key personnel under the contract.

 Responsibilities:                                  

• Serve as the contractor’s lead instructor and primary subject matter expert for the III MEF EOTG Advanced Sniper Course.
• Plan, coordinate, develop, and execute advanced sniper instruction in classroom, live-fire, field, urban, and aerial-platform environments.
• Lead instruction in advanced combat marksmanship at known and unknown distances during daylight, low-light, and nighttime conditions.
• Provide instruction and practical application training involving applicable sniper and service weapon systems, which may include:
  • M22 Advanced Sniper Rifle
  • M40A3 and M40A5 sniper rifles
  • Mk13 sniper rifle
  • M110 Semi-Automatic Sniper System
  • M107 Special Application Scoped Rifle
  • M4 carbine or Infantry Automatic Rifle
  • Close Quarters Battle Pistol
• Teach and evaluate advanced sniper skills, including:
  • Precision shooting fundamentals
  • Known- and unknown-distance engagements
  • Urban and built-up-area target engagement
  • High-angle shooting
  • Aerial shooting from helicopter platforms
  • Position shooting
  • Low-light and night-fire techniques
  • Night-optic employment
  • Ballistics and ballistic calculations

• Provide subject matter expertise regarding sniper integration into specialized limited-scale raids, close-quarters operations, reconnaissance missions, maritime operations, and VBSS activities.
• Design, maintain, review, and continuously refine the Advanced Sniper Course curriculum to ensure it remains current, accurate, tactically relevant, and aligned with evolving operational requirements.
• Ensure all course materials conform to Marine Corps Training and Education Command standards and approved Programs of Instruction.
• Develop and maintain lesson plans, instructor guides, student materials, presentations, practical application exercises, evaluation criteria, training aids, and associated course media.
• Evaluate emerging sniper tactics, techniques, procedures, technologies, optics, weapon systems, and instructional methodologies for possible integration into the curriculum.
• Participate in Course Content Review Boards and provide technical recommendations to Government course chiefs, the Special Missions Branch Officer in Charge, and other designated stakeholders.
• Coordinate course scheduling, training areas, ranges, ammunition, weapons, optics, aviation support, targets, communications, medical coverage, transportation, and other resources necessary for course execution.
• Identify operational, logistical, safety, and scheduling risks and coordinate solutions with the Program Manager/Operations Chief and Government personnel.
• Conduct student evaluations and document individual and collective performance against established course standards.
• Provide professional coaching, remediation, and feedback to students who require additional development.
• Ensure assigned instructors maintain proficiency and qualification on the weapon systems, courses of fire, optics, and equipment used during instruction.
• Personally maintain required weapons, marksmanship, aerial-sniper, equipment, and instructional proficiency.
• Complete the United States Marine Corps and Marine Corps Base Camp Butler Range Safety Officer curriculum within 60 days of arrival.
• Perform Range Safety Officer, position safety officer, or other safety-support duties when assigned and properly qualified.
• Conduct and support high-risk training in strict accordance with applicable safety directives, Operational Risk Management requirements, approved range procedures, and course-specific risk controls.
• Attend and contribute to safety briefs before live-fire and other high-risk training evolutions.
• Immediately identify, report, and correct unsafe conditions, practices, or equipment deficiencies.
• Perform preventive maintenance and operator-level care on Government-furnished weapons, optics, night-vision equipment, communications devices, and other training equipment.
• Maintain accountability, security, and proper use of Government-furnished weapons and equipment.
• Prepare, review, or contribute to required course and exercise deliverables, including:
  • Lesson files and associated media
  • Programs of Instruction
  • After Action Reports
  • Course critiques
  • Storyboards
  • Concepts of Operations
  • Confirmation briefs
  • Training support requests
  • Trip reports
  • Monthly status reports
• Ensure assigned deliverables are accurate, complete, professionally written, and submitted within required contract timelines.
• Support planning, coordination, and execution of Realistic Urban Training Exercises, Certification Exercises, Interoperability Exercises, and other MEU or reconnaissance-related training events.
• Participate in Initial, Midterm, and Final Planning Conferences, site surveys, coordination meetings, and exercise rehearsals as required.
• Support annual sustainment and proficiency training for Government and contractor instructors.
• Attend weekly operations meetings, course coordination meetings, planning conferences, briefings, and other meetings related to assigned duties.
• Maintain professional communication and working relationships with military personnel, civilian employees, other contractors, aviation personnel, range personnel, medical personnel, and external agencies.
• Use Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and other common applications to prepare course materials, reports, briefings, schedules, evaluations, and correspondence.
• Maintain awareness of Marine Corps organization, customs, courtesies, rank structure, terminology, operational procedures, and shipboard environments.
• Support training during nights, weekends, federal holidays, and extended workweeks when required by course or exercise schedules.
• Travel to Guam, Hawaii, California, and other designated locations for courses, exercises, Course Content Review Boards, planning events, site surveys, and instructor-development activities.
• Participate in field-duty conditions and live with supported Marines during training periods, which may last up to 30 days.
• Travel through military ground, air, or amphibious transportation when required.
• Perform other duties within the scope of the contract as assigned by the Program Manager/Operations Chief.

Education & Experience

Required Qualifications

• Combat veteran with honorable service in the United States Armed Forces.
• Retired from or honorably discharged from the United States Armed Forces.
• Must have served as a United States Marine Corps Scout Sniper, Special Operations Forces sniper, or equivalent civilian law-enforcement sniper.
• Must have served as a sniper instructor at one or more of the following, or an equivalent course acceptable to the Contracting Officer’s Representative:
  • Expeditionary Operations Training Group Urban Sniper Course
  • Special Operations Forces Sniper Course
  • United States Marine Corps Basic Sniper Course
  • Marine Forces Special Operations Command Advanced Sniper Course
• Must have been formally qualified in aerial sniper employment.
• Must have subsequently served as an instructor at the Expeditionary Operations Training Group Aerial Sniper Course or an equivalent aerial-sniper course.
• Demonstrated experience with high-angle and aerial shooting in support of specialized limited-scale raids and VBSS operations.
• Advanced knowledge of exterior and terminal ballistics, ballistic calculations, environmental effects, trajectory analysis, and loophole formulas.
• Demonstrated ability to teach advanced sniper and combat-marksmanship skills in classroom, field, urban, live-fire, and aerial-platform environments.
• Experience developing, reviewing, maintaining, or delivering formal military Programs of Instruction, lesson plans, and performance evaluations.
• Ability to qualify and maintain proficiency with all assigned weapon systems and courses of fire taught under the approved Program of Instruction.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
• United States citizenship.
• Current Secret security clearance and the ability to maintain the clearance throughout employment.
• Current Basic First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certifications, or the ability to obtain and maintain them before performing applicable duties.
• Ability to pass the United States Marine Corps and Marine Corps Base Camp Butler Range Safety Officer curriculum within 60 days of arrival.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card, installation access, and all required Government credentials.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and other commercial applications used to develop and present training materials.
• Working knowledge of Marine Corps organization, hierarchy, customs, courtesies, rank structure, terminology, and shipboard environments.
• Physical ability to conduct live-fire, field, urban, aerial, and other high-risk training activities.
• Ability to wear and operate in required personal protective equipment, including body armor, ballistic helmet, eye protection, hearing protection, and flame-resistant clothing.
• Ability to perform preventive maintenance on weapons, optics, and other Government-furnished equipment used during training.
• Ability and willingness to work nights, weekends, federal holidays, extended workweeks, and irregular schedules based on mission requirements.
• Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally and participate in field conditions for periods of up to 30 days.
• Must be able to comply with all firearms-eligibility requirements, including the Lautenberg Amendment.
• Must comply with contractor drug-free workplace requirements and alcohol restrictions applicable to high-risk training.

Preferred Qualifications

• Graduate of a formal military instructor course, basic instructor course, senior instructor course, curriculum-development course, or equivalent instructional certification.
• Previous experience serving as a lead instructor, course chief, sniper section leader, sniper platoon leader, or senior sniper subject matter expert.
• Experience supporting Marine Expeditionary Unit pre-deployment training or certification exercises.
• Experience integrating sniper operations with reconnaissance, close-quarters tactics, raids, maritime operations, aviation, and other supporting elements.
• Experience developing Concepts of Operations, confirmation briefs, range packages, safety plans, training-support requests, and After Action Reports.
• Experience conducting sniper instruction using multiple weapon systems, optics, night-vision devices, thermal systems, and advanced observation equipment.
• Familiarity with Marine Corps Training and Readiness standards, formal Programs of Instruction, and Training and Education Command requirements.
• Experience conducting military training in Okinawa, Guam, Hawaii, or other Pacific theater locations.
• Experience working in a contractor role alongside active-duty military personnel in a high-operational-tempo environment.
