The Quality Engineer will provide technical quality leadership across the value stream, raw material, internal and external manufacturing. Focusing on organizational and process capability to minimize overall Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ) utilizing proven methods in Quality Assurance, Quality Control, AS9100, Reliability Engineering, Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma. The Quality Engineer will be responsible for facilitating the process and procedures to ensure optimum quality during the work flow process, including the adherence to AS9100 standards.

Quality Engineer ESSENTIAL DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITES

  • Reduce overall COPQ, including but not limited to scrap and escapes to annualize goals targets.
  • Reporting COPQ results and use these results to drive and/or facilitate root cause and corrective actions for sustainable reductions.
  • Improve machine capability as critical driver of cost and implementing process control systems
  • Work closely with Supply Chain to improve the supplier quality levels. This will include some travel to supplier locations based in impact levels.
  • Supporting daily quality activities in situations determined by the manager, such as excess absentee in the quality group, large unforeseen customer demand, etc.
  • Developing CMM and SmartScope programs/fixturing and other advanced inspection techniques as needed.
  • Assisting and training inspectors to utilize proper inspection processes and techniques.
  • Participating in the contract review and FMEA process to ensure risks are identified and addressed in the manufacturing process.
  • Investigate, problem solve and answer customer quality concerns. Coordinate, and upon conclusion close the problem resolution process.
  • Leading CAPA activity as assigned, using effective root cause analysis to ensure effective actions are taken.
  • Developing inspection and in process control plans for parts.
  • Performing routine inspections as necessary to support production and revenue goals.
  • Supporting production in part measurement, scrap reduction, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Supporting material review board activities and ensuring all non-compliant material is dispositioned.
  • Providing supplier quality engineering support as needed.
  • Creating and maintaining long and short term metrics to drive improvement.
  • Train, guide and develop Quality Department staff in quality standards and methodology, including but not limited to proper sample submission and customer quality requirements.
  • Performing internal audits according to ensure compliance to quality system.
  • Assisting the Quality Manager as required.



KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • 4 Year Degree in a Quality, Engineering or other Technology related program.
  • ASQ CQE certification preferred.
  • 5 years successful prior essential duty related experience in aerospace quality engineering. Experience in an aerospace precision machining environment preferred.
  • Specific knowledge of quality theory, systems, operations and methods. This includes statistical process control, capability studies, gaging methods and GD&T.
  • Specific knowledge of AS 9100 standards.
  • Communication skills to customer contact standards.
  • Ability to read/write English.
  • Ability to perform advanced math functions.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Eligibility to work with sensitive controlled data and materials according to ITARs policy and practice.
  • Ability to obtain secret security clearance highly desirable
