Job DetailsJob Location: Preble Street - PORTLAND, ME 04101Preble Street’s Street Outreach Collaborative works to end homelessness through intentional, comprehensive outreach to people experiencing unsheltered homelessness who have barriers to accessing food and other services, providing social work services and delivering meals every day at various locations around Portland.
As Needed Staff participate in and perform direct service shift activities and duties, with guidance and task direction provided by full-time and part-time staff and management. As Needed staff support Street Outreach Collaborative by providing shift coverage, outreaching and engaging with clients to provide and facilitate access to services, serving meals at identified community-based locations, maintaining safety within the program spaces, and providing crisis intervention and support.
Population Served: Individuals experiencing homelessness and/or financial instability including the diversity of clients seeking services at Preble Street—youth, adults, currently or formerly homeless, etc.
QualificationsAny combination of education and experience that provides the skills to successfully perform the As Needed Staff responsibilities. A Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or related field of study, or comparable combination of education and relevant experience is preferred.
Qualified candidates will demonstrate
The ability to assess situations and respond effectively using sound crisis intervention skills
Understanding of the Preble Street mission and commitment to providing services in alignment with the mission.
Commitment to cultural sensitivity and ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
An understanding of and respect for individuals experiencing homelessness, including the ability to work within a low-barrier service model
Knowledge of community resources and the ability to connect individuals to appropriate services
The ability to establish and maintain appropriate professional boundaries with diverse populations
Ability to consistently work shifts as scheduled and to remain awake for the duration of shifts.
Also required is the ability to drive a van or small cargo truck, with a valid driver's license and an acceptable motor vehicle record
Compensation
This position offers an hourly rate of $21.62.
