Job DetailsLevel: EntryJob Location: Bangor, Maine - Bangor, ME 04401Hope House, a Preble Street low-barrier shelter located in Bangor, Maine, provides shelter and intensive services to individuals experiencing homelessness in a 24-hour trauma-informed environment grounded in social work best practices.
The Hope House Shelter Navigator is responsible for maintaining the safety of Hope House residents and for skills building activities, daily living skills support, crisis intervention, and coverage activities during shifts. This position ensures the collection, documentation and reporting of information and data as required; and works as a member of the Hope House team to support and achieve outcomes aligned with program goals and the agency mission.
Population Served: Individuals who are experiencing homelessness.
Schedule: Tuesday- Saturday 6am-2:30pm
QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent. Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field of study and experience in direct service provision to people experiencing homelessness, or comparable combination of education and relevant experience.
Required skills and knowledge include
Understanding of the Preble Street mission and harm reduction
Understanding and positive regard for individuals experiencing homelessness and/or living in poverty.
Understanding of low-barrier services and related challenges.
Understanding of mental illness, substance use, and co-occurring disorders
Ability to establish and maintain boundaries within diverse populations.
Effective crisis intervention skills.
Compensation and Benefits
The hourly rate of pay for this full-time (40 hours/week) position is $23.82 per hour. As a direct service position in a 24/7 program, this position is eligible for shift differentials of $1.00 per hour for all hours actually worked between the hours of 7:00am and 10:00pm or $2.00 per hour for all hours actually worked between the hours of 10:00 pm and 7:00 am.
