We are seeking an experienced Business Development Executive to join our dynamic team at PIL. The Business Development Executive (BizDev / CoS) serves as a strategic partner to the Regional Head, supporting business development, strategic initiatives, organizational effectiveness, and executive decision-making across the region.

The role combines commercial development, market intelligence, analytics, executive communications, and cross-functional project management. Acting as an extension of the Regional Head, the incumbent will help identify growth opportunities, coordinate strategic initiatives, prepare executive-level engagements, and ensure alignment between business priorities and execution.

This is a highly visible, execution-focused role requiring strong analytical capabilities, commercial acumen, stakeholder management skills, and the ability to work independently across multiple markets and functions. It offers direct exposure to regional strategy, senior leadership, and cross-country operations.

 

Key Accountabilities;

Business Development

  • Identify and support the development of new business opportunities, potential clients, and partnerships across the region.
  • Assist in building and maintaining relationships with customers, partners, and key industry stakeholders.
  • Participate in commercial discussions, proposal preparation, and negotiation support.
  • Support pipeline development and follow-up on leads, opportunities, and commercial commitments.
  • Contribute to the launch of new partnerships, trade lanes, or commercial initiatives.

 

Strategic Planning & Execution 

  • Support the Regional Head in translating strategic priorities into actionable plans and monitoring execution across the region.
  • Track progress of key initiatives, milestones, and commitments, ensuring timely follow-up with country managers and functional leaders.
  • Escalate risks, bottlenecks, and dependencies to the Regional Head with proposed solutions.
  • Lead or coordinate special projects and strategic initiatives on behalf of the Regional Head, working across functions and geographies as required.

 

Executive Office & Governance

  • Coordinate executive governance forums, including leadership meetings, business reviews, steering committees, and strategic workshops.
  • Prepare agendas, briefing materials, and follow up on decisions and action items to completion.
  • Ensure the Regional Head is well prepared for internal and external engagements, including customer, government (Ministers, regulators, port authorities), and industry stakeholder meetings.
  • Draft executive-level talking points, strategic recommendations, and post-meeting summaries.

 

Market Research & Insights

  • Conduct market research, competitor analysis, and industry benchmarking.
  • Gather and analyse information on customer needs, market trends, trade flows, and regulatory developments.
  • Provide insights to improve commercial performance, positioning, and strategic decisions.

 

Analytics & Reporting

  • Support the preparation of business reports, KPIs, dashboards, and executive scorecards.
  • Use tools such as Excel and Power BI to analyse commercial performance, volumes, revenue, and operational metrics.
  • Maintain and update CRM and pipeline tracking data.
  • Contribute to regular and ad-hoc reporting to regional and headquarters management.

 

Presentations & Executive Communication

  • Prepare high-quality presentations and commercial materials for clients, internal stakeholders, and senior leadership.
  • Support senior team members in client meetings, business reviews, and executive presentations.
  • Ensure information is clearly structured, data-driven, and communicated with executive-ready quality.

 

Organizational Effectiveness

  • Support organizational design reviews, resource allocation analysis, and business transformation initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to improve commercial effectiveness, customer experience, and operational efficiency (e.g., evolving models toward stronger Customer Service focus where appropriate).
  • Support change management and internal communication efforts related to organizational updates.

 

Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Coordinate with Customer Service, Operations, Finance, HR, and other functions to ensure smooth execution of commercial and strategic initiatives.
  • Ensure alignment between commercial commitments and operational execution.
  • Act as a connector a cross-country teams and functional areas to unlock collaboration and remove blockers

 

 

Skills & Qualifications; 

Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in administration, Business, or related discipline (master would be considered a plus)
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in Business Development, Sales, Commercial, Strategy, Consulting, or similar roles.
  • Experience in shipping, logistics, or maritime industries is a strong plus.
  • Prior exposure to executive support, PMO, or Chief of Staff–type activities is highly valued.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in Excel (mandatory).
  • Power BI knowledge (strong plus).
  • Solid analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to translate data into insights and clear recommendations.
  • Comfort with CRM and pipeline management tools.

Language

  • Fluent English – written and spoken (mandatory, Advanced level).
  • Additional regional languages (Spanish, Portuguese) are a plus.
